Good news. Dwight is agreeing to sit out the rest of the season so the team can get a good look at Portis/Bryant C rotation.

I'd rather he play, showcase that he is healthy, and then opt out of his player option this summer.

There was 0.0% chance of that happening from the moment he had the back surgery . No one is paying him more than $5M coming off of a season where he played less than 20 games

Well, if he came back today and started averaging 13 and 10 in 29 minutes a night, someone might pay him more than $5M.

Maybe if his injury was like, a broken finger or something.
But sadly he’s a guy who famously has had back problems his entire career and just had another back surgery.. I can’t see any team gambling on Howard being able to make it through a full season.
He might be a late season pickup for some team needing depth (like how the Grizzlies picked up Joakim Noah a few weeks ago) but no way he signs a 1yr guaranteed deal before the season starts

They have to re-sign Bryant and very likely Portis stays as well. Stretching Mahinmi isn't a good idea. I think Howard wants to play but loves money as well. So, great job again, Ernie. Maybe he can use another 2nd to dump him or just buy him out.
**** that man is disgusting. Assuming they don't make the playoffs we SHOULD hear some good news pretty soon but knowing Ted it's impossible to be hopeful...

It'll be interesting to see if he's okay with coming off the bench. Bryant should remain the starter.
Who am I kidding? Howard probably won't play another game.

He won't play... that's my two cents. And he won't be a positive locker room influence playing 10 minutes per game.

Well, of course he picked up his $5m option! There was never any question of him doing otherwise: after all, going forward it'll likely be kind of hard for him to earn that much money for playing a kid's game -- or, more accurately, for not playing it.
It's just $$. His agent will look for other deals. If he finds someone who'll pay him $3m, say, then the new GM can buy him out for $2.7m, & Howard will come out ahead. But one way or the other, I can't see him playing another game in a Wizards uni.
One more great Ernie deal -- 7 games for $11m. It'd be LOL if it weren't so ridiculously sad.

Breaking News: In a shocking development, Wizards owner Ted Leonsis has sold the NBA franchise to a consortium of participants in a discussion board devoted to the team on realgm.com. Details to follow....

Dwight can help with rebounding and interior D, which were major problems for the Zards last season.

I have no problem with Dwight at 5.6M assuming he actually plays. The issue is having him AND Mahinmi. Both are fine as backup Centers.
I dont see any way or reason to stretch Mahinmi. A new GM will not want to hamstring his future flexibility (5M each of the next 3 years) and it doesnt help Cash flow as Mahinmi is paid 15M this year either way.
I think 1) Mahinmi will be moved for a similar salary player like Evan Turner or Tyler Johnson. Both POR & PHX would save money and need a vet backup Center (Remember Nurkic is done for most of next year)
or 2) Dwight shows he's healthy and traded in much the same way.
I just dont see how we can carry 3 Center-Only players next year...ESPECIALLY if we resign Portis. It will be interesting

I don't want him and his unprofessional stinking carcass anywhere near the team nest season.
Him and Mahinmi should be waived. The young centers should be getting all of the minutes.

What young centers? Is there another young center on the roster other than Bryant?...who actually isn't on the roster after June 30 when he becomes a free agent.

Bryant and possibly Portis (and maybe a draft pick like Bol or Goga).
Either way, I don't want Howard on this team. His minimal effect on the court doesn't offset his terrible morale destroying aura.

I don't get the sense that Mahinmi is unprofessional. He just stinks. If we're going to pay him anyway, I don't mind him being the 15th man. He can still be useful as a post defender against certain matchups, and he doesn't cause any trouble in the locker room.

Im not as down on Howard that way... but do think he'll be moved. We'll tell him Bryant is the starter, Portis is the backup, and Mahinmi is the deep bench/defensive specialist...
Some teams that may be interested in Howard.
Bulls.... need a vet to compliment Carter and DH is better than Lopez.
Mavs....Mejri MIGHT come back, but no other Center besides Powell. Good 1 year bridge until next year when he, Powell, and Lee expire.
OKC... Straight up for Patrick Patterson gives them a backup C for no additional cost... takes over Noels role
Wild Card trade:
PHX: They are happy with Booker/Warren on the wing, they trade Bridges & Okobo for Dwight & 7 (Assuming Bol and Garland are gone)

Agree. He was in great shape this season (I hope Bryant works with him and gets rid of that baby fat ) and at least tried to add 3pt shot to his game. He's just not a good player. Jesus **** christ, I still can't understand what they were thinking when they gave him that deal - a career backup, foul prone player and Gortat, still a solid starter, in the roster. Thank God Ernie's finally gone but unfortunately he caused such a deep wounds that take years to heal.
Um, okay, well, yea. Like payitforward said, hopefully some team is willing to sign him so we can buy him out and get a little discount.
