Re: 2019 Draft Thread
I could see him carving a career for himself out of heady play and timely shooting like Seth Curry, but I don't see why he wouldn't stay at UVA unless he's already got his degree or has a nice offer waiting for him from Antibes, which just seems like a nice place to hang out and play basketball.

Re: 2019 Draft Thread
ALLOW ME to chime in.
You guys pretty much have it right. From what I can tell (having watched most, if not all, of Guy's games), his problem with getting drafted is going to be size. He is small for a SG, both in height and muscularity. And while he has shown the ability to create his own shot to an extent in college, he's probably going to have trouble doing that in the NBA.
Pros
Elite shooter. Elite. Elite. Elite. One of the quickest releases I've ever seen and is always ready to let fly. He gets himself squared up and ready to shoot before he gets the ball.
One of the best you'll ever see at moving without the ball, reading screens, and making the right cuts off of said screens.
Tough. While he's not a big guy, he's a surprisingly good rebounder and not like Westbrook's "everyone cleared the space for me so I can poach an uncontested board" rebounds. He gets in there and mixes it up.
Pretty good driver and can get off tough shots in traffic.
Good court vision, nifty passer, though not at the level of his teammate, Ty Jerome.
Intangibles. Most of you probably saw this over the past year. He is a very positive person, has openly discussed his struggles with anxiety, lifts up teammates, works hard, is as great kid to have on your team.
Cons
Size. About 6'2" and not bulky. As I said, he's stronger than he looks, but as a SG, his size will be a hindrance at the next level.
Nothing special - yet - as far as PG skills go. At his size, he might need to be a PG in the NBA, but he's not overly quick (he's not slow, just not NBA-level PG quick) and while his handles are fine, I haven't seen anything to indicate they are special, either. He just hasn't played enough PG in college to know.
Defense - he's a very willing and tenacious defender, but related to the above, I think he'd have trouble guarding PG's in the NBA from a quickness standpoint and he might not be big enough to guard SG's.
I think the two things he should work on are a) gaining muscle and b) ball handling. As I said, neither is a problem in college. He is tough and he handles the ball fine. But the level each are at now won't do anything for him in the NBA. Steph Curry is basically the model for Kyle Guy. Clearly, even Guy probably won't get to Curry's level of shooting, but the big difference between them is that Curry has sick, sick handles and can get to wherever he wants to on the court. Guy, while not a liability with the ball, can't create his shot like Curry can. If Guy can work on that, he still won't get to Curry's level - the dude is once in a generation - but he could perhaps get to like 75% of that and could be a contributor.
I've got figure that with his insane shooting, ability to move without the ball, and intangibles, he will get an opportunity with an organization, but perhaps not until next year.
EDIT: J.J. Redick could be another aspiration for Guy. Redick is about an inch taller and obviously stronger, but Guy could easily gain more muscle. It also took Redick quite some time to become a significant factor in the NBA. It can be done. Put 15 pounds on Guy and he could be quite similar to Redick.

I can see why one would think differently, though.
You can't be talking about Kabengele, right?
I'm wondering myself. Yeah I've mixed him up but with whom? I honestly don't know.
I've been trying to figure out who I thought of but I can't figure it out. No, it's not Brandon Clarke.
Regarding the real Kabengele, I think he goes at least late lottery or late teens if he declares. I'm not in love with him at that range because he's a lowish floor elite role player ceiling.

Nah I'm pretty sure it's not Shittu. I've been thinking of some 6'8/6'9 ~230-240 guy that blocks some shots but doesn't shoot a lot of 3's. It's not Clarke but he's a good shout.

By the way what do you guys think of Jaxson Hayes? For me he's hard to judge. Because you pay him 10-20m (depending on his draft range) and utilize a roster spot for 4 years just to hold his RFA rights. Unless you have a guy spoonfeeding him buckets at the rim he's unplayable.

Yep, probably it. We talked about him a ton last year.

Yeah I remember thinking he was at least kinda interesting as a 2nd round prospect last year. Looks like he got hurt this season pretty early in the year but he had suddenly started shooting 3's this year. 23 of them in 7 or 8 games and he made 39% after never attempting a 3 his first two years.

Yeah that is the guy! It's funny because last year I wanted him to develop a 3 pointer to be draftable and now he has shown glimpses and I don't like him.

Last I heard Konate and WVU were trying to get him a medical redshirt so he could play again next year.

His jumper has apparently improved a lot. Wouldn't mind taking a swing and stash on Obiesie.

I'd be careful with comps like these. Forbes with handles is a really good NBA player. It's more likely than not that he's not an NBA player.

Derrick White credited his time in the G-league last night after leading the Spurs with a 36 point playoff win. Went 29th, spent all year in Austin and led them to championship win. Specifically mentioned the title run as being important. Spurs are obviously the gold standard for late 1st rounders and Bud knows as well as anyone. Be awesome to see our pick lead Oshkosh to playoff relevance and become relevant for the Bucks in year two.
