The wing was the worst for Orlando objectively.

PER lines:
Augustin = 15.72
Fournier = 12.32
Isaac = 13.02
Gordon = 15.18
Vučević = 25.53

Orlando's wing was substandard.

Bench numbers:
Birch = 19.19
Ross = 15.45
Bamba = 14.92
Carter-Williams = 14.76
Grant = 10.86
Iwundu = 8.71

But the Playoff PER lines are a similar story:
Augustin = 16.89
Fournier = 5.18
Isaac = 6.31
Gordon = 15.54
Vučević = 10.28

So judging by PER, DJ wasn't that bad and let's be honest, he was playing against one of the best PGs in the league.

If you check our worse PERs during the playoffs:
Evan: playing against Green, multiple times all-defense team;
Isaac and Vuc: against Leonard/Gasol, former DPOYs.

And we wouldn't have made the playoffs if we had accepted this deal, IMO.

well, as mentioned, Moe wouldnt work because of salary constraints, so something else had to have been involved.

All smart teams loading up on shooting and passing. No way in hell i would trade Fournier for anything than other versatile scorer
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

Not much of a Fournier fan but I'm glad we did not do this deal.

Fournier for Harkless and Leonard works financially.

http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y3shchr9

Basically the Magic would have added 4.4M to this year's cap, 5.7M to next year's cap and shed 17M off the cap two years from now and in exchange they'd have gotten (presumably) the 25th pick in the 1st round this year.

I'd have done that deal just to get out from Evan's contract a year early, but Fournier's improved play after the all-star break was a big factor in the Magic's late season playoff push.

If EF gets traded at deadline then Vuc probably gets dealt as well, there's no way you move 1 and not the other IMO

Probably just some due diligence by the front office depending on what transpired at the deadline. It's good to know what is out there on the table should they have moved in a different direction. I'm sure a lot of pieces would have moved if they decided to tank. They made the right choice at that time though.

Pretty easy to see Dallas is a likely destination for Vuc. Josh Robbins had an article on The Athletic with the below.

Mavericks dispatched a high-ranking member of their front office to observe several post-trade deadline Magic games, ostensibly to scout Vucevic.

I hope they were around in the playoffs.

IIRC Zach Lowe had speculated this around the trade deadline. And then they went with a deal for Rodney Hood.

easier for them to look at Vuc as a 3rd 4th option behind Doncic, Porzingis.

They aren't paying a ton for 4th option vuc... that just doesn't make sense.

I don't know that they would have to. I'm not sure the market is going to be super hot for Vucevic this summer. I'm anticipating a $18-20 mill/year deal for him this season. And if offers aren't varying much, I wouldn't be surprised to see Vucevic opt to leave the Magic for a different situation. Dallas would be a good look for him.
