Doc Rivers Says Clippers Had Same Heart As 2008 Celtics

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Apr 27, 2019 4:46 pm

Doc Rivers reiterated how proud he was of his current Los Angeles Clippers side, comparing them to his 2008 Boston Celtics team that won the NBA title.

"I've never been more proud of a group of guys in the 20 years that I've coached. They were just really fun. As I've said before, I've never had a group where you wanted to, in the morning, you raced to the car, you raced to practice just because you love being around them. So for me, it was just a pleasure to coach them," said Rivers.

The Clippers were eliminated in 6 games in the first round of the NBA playoffs by the Warriors.

Rivers added that the players connected with the city because of their heart and hard work.

"This was the 2008 Celtics without [Kevin] Garnett, Ray Allen, [Rajon] Rondo and Paul [Pierce]. It really was, like, same heart, played every night hard. And that's why they connected. I think you could take this team and put it in every NBA city, and when they leave, every NBA city would love this team. Because the people who come to games go to work all day. And they love to see players who play like they work. And I thought what the city saw in this team, what I saw in this team, was a hard-hat team that came to work every day. And it doesn't matter if you're blue-collar or white-collar, people appreciate workers."

Kudos to the clips for a great series. They really showed a lot of heart. Doc deserves credits for that coaching. Jerry West really know how to put a team togther.

And yet the warriors won without really trying.. Next year this culture will change a lot as a ton of the players will be gone and I guess you have to feed Kawhi a ton of touches and don't start if Durant went there.. Well done to finish 8th though even after trading Tobias and congrats for maybe injuring some Key Warriors players and making it easier for someone else to win..
