This is why the midrange game will never totally go away. It's only an inefficient shot if it's defended. A good shooter, entirely undefended, can hit those 15 footers 75% of the time.

The more defenses "evolve" to prioritize defending the paint and the three point line, the softer their midrange defense will be, until you reach an equilibrium where those are still viable shots.
