Close the deal please bob, don't go cheap and fumble again just because of a few millions difference like you did with Joe Johnson. We need to have some good news to get some good momentum going into the upcoming season.

Too bad Sarver couldn’t do this for a coach with a proven winning record like Budenholzer :banghead:

So it looks like Monty is gonna wait to see if he can get the Lakers job...so we are probably his backup plan.

It does not look good to me, because I do not know why the Lakers have not hired Ty Lue already if he were their choice.

I am not a big fan of Monty Williams, but I think he is the best realistic option available for us...we can get a worse and inexperienced HC for sure.

A lot of people have been asking what’s taking so long with this coaching search, and this is a good example of why the process has been so gradual.

Williams is currently serving as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia 76ers, and is most likely heavily occupied with their playoff run, and also probably doesn’t want to choose a job until after the Sixers’ run is over due to persistent speculation that head coach Brett Brown could be let go if the team disappoints.

While he likely isn’t sitting around rooting for Brown to be fired, Williams has to know it’s a possibility, and that as things stand right now that the Sixers job is probably more attractive than the Lakers’ or Suns’ respective openings.

Whatever happens in Philadelphia may be the first domino to fall here, which would then force Williams to survey his options and decide to stay in Philadelphia (either as a head coach or assistant) or choose between the Lakers and Suns.

It makes sense...probably his first option are the Sixers.

Philly would be a good job

I don't think he is using the Lakers to leverage the Suns. I think he is seeing if Brett Brown will be fired in Philly. IF, is he waiting for anything.

Granted, the Stein tweet might be that Williams is just waiting for the Sixers season to end to accept a job. If he wanted the Lakers job, he would have taken it by now one would surmise.

Maybe there are some great examples in the past of teams doing this, but if Philly knew they were going to fire Brown (or knows that it's a possibility if they do not end up winning the title), why would they give multiple teams permission to interview Monty if they also wanted to hire him? Perhaps it is just a common practice to always "grant permission"? If I were Philly and I wanted Monty as head coach, I would simply tell teams that no permission is granted since they are still in the playoffs, and then just hire him the second they fire Brown once they exit the playoffs.

Thats a very good point. I actually feel better about Williams to the Suns than Budenholzer to the Suns. Bud to the Bucks always made a lot of sense. That team was ready to win.

pretty sure thats what Woj and Stein said. No offer has been made. Other interviews lined up - I am surprised he didn't say Kidd

So that probably means " Sarver is gonna interview another inexperienced assistant, who has never be a HC before and is gonna be super cheap and obedient."
