Phoenix wouldn’t leak this as it doesn’t benefit them, they’d just offer him the job before they lose him to another team.

This leak has to be from Monty’s camp, and only reason to leak this is to pressure another team, a team he obviously prefers, to make him an offer.

That makes a lot of sense! I wonder if LAL gives him the offer now.

Makes too much sense. But if speculation is true they don't want it to seem like LeBron is running the Lakers I guess I shouldn't be surprised if they brought in Monty.

Once again, the media is viewing everything through the prism of LeBron. Remember when people looked at things based on how good someone was a player, coach or executive instead of what would make LeBron happy?

I could see this going a while. Which I’m fine with. I think we will interview more candidates and take our time. I think they want a coach that will stick with us and be successful until bron retires

Pretty much. If it’s someone outside LeBrons sphere of influence it’s presented as Lakers worried about giving up control to LeBron; if it’s someone within his ties it’s presented as LeBron’s running the show.

Load of crap coming from the media. Though I do worry about the whole Jeanie Buss and Linda Rambis situation.

Why aren't we interviewing Jeff & Stan Van Gundy? Imagine if we could get both of those guys on a staff, especially with their connections around the league?

This is where having some strong basketball people in the front office would help. Jason Kidd gets an interview and not those guys?

No Udoka, no Messina, no Jay Wright, no asking for permission for Coach K, etc.

This is no doubt a ploy by Williams and his agent group to put pressure on the Lakers to offer the job to him if they want it.

Only thing in all of this that gives me hope is that they seem to be moving pretty slow... Makes me think they have someone still coaching in mind they want to interview, or at least want to see if anyone still in the playoffs is interested...

I type all this fully expecting to have someone else post a tweet saying we hired Jason Kidd before I can click Submit.

Also... How do you "All but offer the head Coaching Job to Monte Williams?" Please 'splain that to me Phoenix suns...

Will anyone be sad if Monty is signed elsewhere? Let’s not overrate him

I would love him as the HC but he has to bring in another offensive guy. Ty Lue is much better when it comes to scheme.

I think Monty would be a great sell to potential free agents too. He's got a way about him with people and building relationships. You take Monty & LeBron to a pitch meeting and I would feel pretty damn comfortable with that.

But his scheme offensively really worries me. Reminds me too much of Luke in that sense.

My current stance is that if we do hire Lue it should be on a Two year contract. If we hire a LeBron coach he should be on an identical length contract.

Read on Twitter

Per Woj:
“Those are the two candidates that the Lakers are planning to choose from to make an offer to. There are so many people in that Laker organization involved in this decision-making process. From ownership into senior management, general manager Rob Pelinka. There are cases being made on both sides: for Ty Lue and for Monty Williams. I think the sense in L.A. is, Ty Lue will take that job if offered. But Monty Williams, they’re in a bit of a competition with the Suns. He will seriously consider that job.”

Well, the Lakers haven't had a good coach since Phil, so I guess this trend will continue.

I think Monty wants it too or he would have already accepted the Suns offer.
I think he’s much rather live in LA , coach a Lebron led team, and work for the Lakers, who will be in the hunt for a second superstar, than to go live in the hot desert and coach a very young team that will probably lose close to 60 games.
