OT: Wonderland’s new coaster makes international news

Post#1 » by Double Helix » Fri May 3, 2019 11:43 pm

Anything to distract from game 3. Opened today.

https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/yukon-striker-roller-coaster-opens-canada/index.html

Canada's Wonderland says it's "the longest, fastest and tallest dive roller coaster in the world."

Cedar Fair buying Wonderland has in retrospect been fantastic for any coaster fans in the GTA. Their investments since buying the park and putting in Behemoth, then Leviathan and now this one are impressive.

Why go on that roller coaster when you can be a Raptor fan.

Wait until September, you'll get a pass for the following year for like $10.

This thing looks amazing. I remember riding top gun back in the day and lifting my feet up because it felt like they were close to polls. This drop into a water tunnel looks phenomenal.

Pretty cool that we have the largest roller coaster, but there is no way I'd ever go on that!

Wonderland is a client of mine, and I sold them the design software that created this ride ;)

The thing I don’t get about the underwater tunnel bit is what happens when it rains brutally. I’m assuming there’s some kind of pump system?

The underwater part also reminds me of this old Bob & David Mr Show sketch.

I’m not an amusement park enthusiast but always thought it was unfortunate that Paramount got away from the business bc it used to be really neat to go to Wonderland with all those movie themes and characters. After Cedar Fair took over all those movie associations disappeared making a lot of the rides a bit awkward (eg Top Gun = Flight Deck? No more Danger Zone song?). But yeah as OP said, Cedar Fair is known for their crazy and huge rollercosters in the States and the improvement on that end in Wonderland has been great. Now that I have kids myself I go with them and they enjoy the kids sections cause at least there’s still a Snoopy association but most of all they love the kiddy rides.

People are going to wonderland with those lineups? The last time I was there was years ago with my son. We were there for about 8 hours and went on 5 or 6 rides because there was an hour+ wait for every one of them. And this was on a weekday. Can’t imagine how bad it is now with all these new roller coasters.

When I was a kid my friends and I went to wonderland on a weekday and entered as soon as the gates allowed us. We got to go on our favourite rides without lines for a good half hour or so. Best time ever.

you can buy fast lane(+) to skip the regular lines, but it's like $80 extra for the the plus i think

Showing my age but I remember going as a kid the first few years it opened. Back then Vaughn was a wasteland. If you went on a weekday there would never be a lineup of more than 15 mins for any ride the entire day.
