Jv vs marc is irrelevant here

Its kawhi vs embiid/butler/harris/simmons

Theyre simply more talented & talent usually wins out in the playoffs

I think a lot of people realize that JV+Wright is sorely missed in this matchup against the Sixers. I questioned this trade from the beginning but people kept on saying “ohh Gasol doesn’t need to rebound, he doesn’t need to score.. all he needs to do is pass it out from beyond the arc and we’re a better team”
Masai's to do list

I’m prepared to admit that it’s possible we would have matched up better with the Sixers had we not done the trade. I’m not prepared to admit that we would have beat either Boston or Milwaukee with JV playing much. There’s just too much evidence he’s ineffective in those match ups.

Trading for Gasol was always about raising the potential ceiling of this team in order to get us to the Finals. We’ve seen that we’re in capable in spurts. If Kyle and Fred continue to be complete no shows then none of this matters. Delon and CJ aren’t the missing pieces that would have put us over the top. If that’s your argument you’re just fooling yourself.

JV would've provide scoring off the bench not be a coward like Gasol camping outside the 3 point line being scared to shoot wide open shots.

They would never put Tobias Harris on JV. They can get away with it now because Gasol is useless on offence. Can't rebound, can't defend, exposed as a mental midget

Actually, Austin is the president of SixerSense which is owned by FanSided. William is the lead Toronto Raptors reporter for Yahoo Canada sports. And one of the other guys is affiliated with some small sports site.

Gasol cant even score right under the basket.
Its embarrassing. He should be embarrassed.
He needs to be practicing his post game all day becuase we only have a chance when he starts becoming a threat in the paint.

Masai **** up.

Aside from tonight his play has been great on the defensive end and solid on the offensive end (and he was needed more defensively since both of our opponents so far run their offence through their big men)

I'm sorry, did you say Gasol was solid in the offensive end? He is literally passing up open shots. You can't be an effective passer when you are not a threat to score yourself.

Tobias Harris is guarding him and yet he can't capitalize on a smaller guy on him. Its ridiculous. Marc is too talented a player to be so timid on offense. His rebounding is poor too.
Meh aside from games 2 and 3 he's been solid on offence. He certainly hasn't been a liability. If the right adjustments are made I think he should be able to get back to form

Gasol is playing in a different system for the first time in his 11 year career. his stats were STEADY his entire time in memphis he didn't decline much if at all last season. The problem is bringing everyone together nurse hasn't done that.

This is the kind of nuanced view that most people here aren't capable of.

The trade wasn't our downfall, but it did make us different. The risk was taken because the things Marc helps us with, compared to JV, should be more valuable in later playoff series.

There's no doubt Gasol did a better job on Vucevic than Jonas has been known to do, but that doesn't mean we couldn't have won the Orlando series anyways. I suspect we would have, but the 4 wins would have been closer, or maybe it goes to 6 games.

The matchup with Philly appeared to favor Gasol well, as he has been able to keep Embiid below career numbers also. The problem is that we simply don't have the bulk and rebounding and post scoring to match up now that Joel seems to have a bit of confidence going. JV would never hold him to 11/7/2 sort of lines, but even if Joel went off for 28/12/3 sort of night, Jonas would fight right back and post 24/12/2 of his own, drawing fould largely holding game. If Gasol can't defend to a below average line, and can't produce offensively, then it's a major problem and Jonas is absolutely the better matchup.

But then you have to ask... if Jonas helps us get past Philly but is a very bad matchup vs MIL/BOS, does undoing the trade really help us get to the Finals? We *should* be able to beat Philly with the roster we have and then match up more favorably in the ECF with Gasol, but we really do need more out of the non Kawhi roster if we want to have a chance.

The other question is whether Gasol really has it in him to make a playoff run through 3 or 4 playoff series? If the wheels are falling off in Rd2 because he is simply old/reduced in ability, then we're kinda screwed even if we do get past the Sixers. I'm going to let the rest of the games play out first before coming to any conclusions like this. I think he has another big game or two in the tank for this series, even if he may not have a lot more to give in later rounds.

To me it's not really about Marc Gasol failing, it's more about Kyle Lowry and the rest of the Raptors inability to score.

Who would have known that post scoring is a mandatory thing in the playoffs now.

I agree though Jonas Valanciunas would have been extremely important in the series. I believe this is a sign for the new NBA, I think the age of the big man is about to come back.

Teams like the 76ers are stocking up height and speed as well as weight. The only way to go and score against them, is my extreme play making and shooting. We don't have either, as we don't have a Steph Curry or Klay Thompson.

What is compounding the issue is the fact that Kyle Lowry is not shooting at all Karma and has 28.9 field goal percentage for Beyond The Arc.

With no release valve, our bench producing extremely horrible, siakam getting guarded by Joel embiid, and Kyle Lowry shooting horrific percentages, in retrospect this trade looks like on very horrible one.

CJ Miles three-point shooting, as well as delon's versatility would have really come in handy.

Delon would have been able to guard positions from the point guard to the power forward, because he looks like he's able to take on Tobias Harris.

CJ would have provided some amazing spacing, but hindsight is a b****. CJ actually shot the ball really horribly before we traded him.

Also with the injury to OG anunoby, as well as having Jeremy Lin playing horribly, we are very limited

It's up to Marc Gasol to show us.

I said this since day one that it's a horrible trade. We had one of the best center duo's before JV got traded and delon was a good scorer off the bench. I also don't get why we got rid of Moose and then got a scrub like moreland

JV actually defended Embiid well, like he usually does with the big centers in the game. He would also make Embiid work on the defensive end.

Lowry is our downfall. A second star who tends to crumble when the lights get bright. Replace Lowry with Conley or Holiday and we're not down 2-1 right now.

Might as well quote 4 random posts from other people here to prove a point. Unless people think these guys don't have their own biases, and they do.

JV clogs the paint and takes away spacing for Siakam and Kawhi

Think about that for 1 sec.
