Re: The Kyrie support thread - he still bleeds green
The one thing I’ve never understood with Kyrie is how he has consistently been so bad defensively.
Okay he probably isn’t as strong and explosive as other guards but he’s fairly tall, fast and agile. To be a big liability on that end your whole career is just pathetic. You need smarts to be a plus defender at the NBA level. Whether or not Kyrie lacks those I don’t know. But I feel like his attitude towards defence stinks. He’s all about offence.

I think you're better off without Kyrie. His ego is too big and his game doesn't back it up. Trade for Davis, start Hayward and come into next season with a MUCH more cohesive and better unit. Just my 2 cents from Toronto.

Issue is trading for AD costs you Tatum/Smart, and without Kyrie it's unlikely you keep him.
It'd be dumping potential prime assets for a rental with basically zero chance of staying.

So my friend who has a lot of BRK connections is telling me Kyrie just put money down for a house in New Jersey...don't know how credible my friend is, but a quick Google search found nothing...
If true this was the first real sign of LeBron and other stars leaving.

This is when stars are supposed to step up -- contrast him with Jokic, Giannis, Harden, KD, Kawhi, Embiid, or the other bonafide stars he puts himself in the same class with and the performance doesn't meet expectations so far.
With the exception of Game 2 against Indiana (37/6/7) he's had a pretty pedestrian playoffs. Through 8 games he's averaging 22/5/8 and 3 TOs with 40% shooting (33% from 3pt). By contrast, Steph who isn't even playing that well overall is averaging 23/6/5 on 45% shooting (38% from 3pt). Durant is 35/5/5 on 52% shooting (43% from 3pt). Hell, Jamal Murray is averaging 22/4/4 on 45% shooting (35% from 3pt). Murray is probably the better comp for Kyrie this playoffs.
If you want to stake your claim as a top player in the league the playoffs is the place to do it and so far it's been a C+ type performance from Kyrie. All of his quirky behavior and comments are cute and endearing if he's playing at an A level, but when he plays the way he has been, people want to run him out of town. That's how it goes I guess.
The comments are not cute and endearing in any context. He's a toxic locker room force no matter how he plays on the court.
"Cute and endearing" were bad choices of words... my point was that some of the puffing chest out comments about his track record and how he's a shooter would be a lot better received if he backed them up.

Ill be upset if Kyrie leaves but I wont be heartbroken. Sucks to lose him but we will recover.
I will be heartbroken if we resign Terry Rozier to be our starting PG. He sucks.
I can get myself excited for a Smart-Brown-Tatum 1-2-3— Smart is the perfect defensive PG for a switching team and is a fantastic compliment to a team looking to generate its offense from wing scorers. At the very least, we wont have to worry about teams punishing us for switching guards during screens.

I completely agree with Jalen here. Kyrie is an iso style player, incapable of changing that. I have always hated that style. Hated it in Miami, hated it in Cleveland, etc. Loved when the Spurs ball and man movement clinically dissected Miami and destroyed them. It only worked to the degree that it worked because of Lebron, primarily, and Wade secondarily. So, I hate that style, AND, it doesn't work with Kyrie as your lead dog.
You can place some blame on Danny for thinking that it would work with Kyrie as your #1, or imagining that he'd modify his game to a more team oriented approach. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter. All that matters is that it did not work, it destroys team chemistry when one guy decides to get his at the expense of team play, and then other guys abandon team play to, in turn, get theirs. It's just brutal basketball to watch, even though they could win their fair share of games on talent alone. Doesn't work when they run into equally talented teams who actually play as a team.
Anyway, I will be very glad when this dude is off the team next year. It would be a monumental mistake to sink a max [edit: not supermax] contract on this guy.

Can't supermax him.
What is the path to winning if he goes? Hope Tatum turns into a top 10? Hope the price for AD doesn't gut our talent(because it will)?
The way this league works is we are in trouble if he walks and should even offer to hire a coach if that is his ultimatum.

Fine, scratch Supermax and replace it with max. Monumental mistake either way. The path to winning becomes a longer one. We're in trouble if he stays. The guy is the mascot for unwatchable basketball. The new Carmelo. It's a matter of style. Iso vs team ball, and the effect a guy like him has on team chemistry. I'll take my chances with the slower build than sink good money after bad in the likes of Kyrie.

Still holding out hope for Kyrie and Davis pairing in Boston. If that isn't in the cards I still hope we resign Kyrie, the young kids develop, Hayward improves and Danny gets some big man help for Horford. If Kyrie leaves I'll be pissed because we are further away from a title but I won't be sad cus rooting for Kyrie is difficult.

Re: The Kyrie support thread - he still bleeds green
So I'm at a point where I am fine with Kyrie staying or going. I trust Danny enough to surround Kyrie with the right pieces i.e. Anthony Davis, etc if Kyrie were to stay. If Kyrie leaves then I'm sorta intrigued by the possibilities moving forward, especially if Gordon Hayward comes back an All-Star again, which I think he will be.
This has clearly been a difficult year all-around. Kyrie really struggled as a leader and he never developed into the superstar that many of us thought he could be as the teams #1. He's proven that he's more of a #2 and needs a LeBron or KD in order to win the ultimate prize.
Hayward wasn't even close to being ready at the start of the season. And I think Hayward playing too early impacted the roster in a negative way. I fully believe that GH with a full off-season HEALTHY, will come back ready to regain All-Star form. Especially, if Kyrie is gone and Hayward's usage goes up.
The biggest disappointment on the entire roster was Terry Rozier. Clearly, he didn't want to be here as a backup. Clearly, he isn't suited to be a backup. He plays much better as a starter. Danny missed the boat last offseason and should have traded Rozier while his value was high.
Jayson Tatum & Jaylen Brown both struggled overall and failed to take the next big step in their development. but I don't blame those guys quite yet. I blame Kyrie and Brad for not handling these "kids" the right way. And I think this season has been humbling for Tatum & Brown. I feel like those guys will come back more hungry for success. Remember, when you experience success right away in your young career, you think that's just the way it's going to be all the time. You fail to realize that it takes a lot of heart and effort. It takes passion and some good fortune. so granted these 2 are still Celtics next season, I am excited to see what adjustments and development they will have made.
Guys who I was pleased with this year. Al Horford. He was very solid. Very steady.
Marcus Morris-A lot of people don't like Morris, but he did what he was asked to do. Played well.
Marcus Smart. Improved his shooting. Never complained or punches any picture frames.

The Celtics are in super trouble.imho. I think they got to let him walk? Looking like a very bad trade for our team taking him on? The nets odds are will win more games than us next season. We look to be headed to 6 seed if other teams don't improve too much.

Re: The Kyrie support thread - he still bleeds green
The only support kyrie needs is from Danny Ainge and he has it. Ainge will offer him a 5 year max the second he can. If he signs then we try for AD. The roster is going to be completely different due to free agents and trades whether it’s AD or someone else.
Kyrie sucked in the buck series big time. He talked big and he failed to back it up- that being said the path to a ring is easier with him than without. He’s been a diva to the media all year and he lacks self awareness big time but I’d rather have him and AD or him with players that fit better with him than many of the alternatives I see being offered here.

Re: The Kyrie support thread - he still bleeds green
Terry Rozier will always be a back up or play in China. He just is not a very good point guard and he is to small for two guard. He is also not a good two guard. I can't see any gm handing him the keys? There are some real bad gms but most are not suicidal or want to get fired I'm guessing. Danny keeping this scrub was a giant mistake.imhoddb wrote:So I'm at a point where I am fine with Kyrie staying or going.
