2019 Summer League Thread

Post#1 » by Jamaaliver » Thu Apr 11, 2019 7:35 pm

Any thoughts on which of our young vets should be playing in Utah/Las Vegas this year?

Seems like Trae will definitely be exempt...but should Huerter be playing? Taking a similar role to what Collins provided last year?

And Huerter appears to be a no-go early...

Will [we] see a slimmer, trimmed down Omari?

Can he dominate the young players he'll be facing with added strength and experience?

I think playing the full season and moving into the starting lineup early may have exempted Huerter.

Omari had better have some muscle definition.
I would like to see a body transformation like Udonis Haslem.

Jaylen Adams will be there.
Poythress perhaps
Is Kaba healthy?

Interesting that with so much youth, we'd decline (withdraw) from a Summer League...

The participating teams in the round-robin summer showcase in downtown Salt Lake City will be the Jazz, San Antonio Spurs and Memphis Grizzlies along with newcomer Cleveland Cavaliers.

Maybe it wasn't productive for them last season?
So they'll focus on practice and preparing for Vegas.

I think this is the good call. Trae and Heurter played long, starter minutes and will again. Hope that they are both there though, just not to play

They'll be there to practice with the team but not play.

Sadly, with the rules on consummating trades, D Hunter may not even be ready to play in this match up.
NBA Summer League 2019: Previewing Biggest Games on Las Vegas Schedule

Atlanta vs. Minnesota (July 7, 5:30 p.m. ET, ESPN2)

Image

[T]wo of the top players in the rookie class are set for a head-to-head rematch on the third day of action in Las Vegas.

In April, De'Andre Hunter's Virginia got the best of Texas Tech and Jarrett Culver, but Culver now has a chance to earn revenge as a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Hunter went to the Atlanta Hawks at No. 4 after they acquired the pick from New Orleans, who took possession of it from the Los Angeles Lakers in the Anthony Davis trade.

Minnesota sacrificed the No. 11 pick and Dario Saric to move up to No. 6 to select Culver, who was bypassed by Cleveland as it took Darius Garland at No. 5.

In the national title game, Hunter went off for 27 points while Culver struggled from the field by going 5-for-16 with 15 points.

It is likely the two will square off head-to-head on some possessions just like they did in April, and you would have to think Culver will carry more motivation into the contest because of his showing against Virginia.

Although the championship game will be three months behind them July 7, expect Culver to carry a bit more motivation to try and pull off a victory for Minnesota two days after facing Garland and the Cavaliers in his team's Summer League opener.

I am excited to watch Charlie Brown and Jaylen Adams. I hope one can emerge as a solid back up PG. Omari needs to be dominate, and I just hope the draft picks can play lol.

Nor Bruno, since the #57 pick we got from NOP that we sent to Philly is part of the AD trade. Sigh.
The NBA needs to fix this, somehow!
