Casual fans care about current wins and stars. If the Nets land Durant and start winning they will become a hot topic team around the country
this couldnt be more false. knicks make news nationally without even being good
Stop it. They do not. Nobody was hyping as a franchise the Knicks when they sucked with Phil Jackson was all about Winslow + Aldridge and cap space (same old story again here).
They don’t even sellout Top 5 or 10 without being good which I have already proven and you keep avoiding the truth. The outlier here is the fact they have cap space, Top 5 lotto odds and the 2019 class is star studded which for any big market team is the ultimate trifecta but let’s stop acting like we’ve not heard this before from you. The world was supposed to be scared of Phil Jackson & 11 rangz that would recruit LeBron/KD to NY in 2016.
The Knicks make headlines like this once every 4 years based off what talking heads who are Knick fans want to see happen because everyone wants to see an actual Top 3 player in New York sports for a franchise worth a billion. It doesn’t matter the sport. These tired 20 year journalists sit and write these ‘what if’ pieces and keep the reader with the idea they can and will land this said ‘star’ regardless of basketball reasons. The Yankees, Mets have all had their World Series moments to capture the old nostalgia of 90’s NY. It’s no different to the guy who would rather listen to 90’s NY rap music over the new Cardi B.
If that writer doesn’t respect or like the owner/FO then they will likely write a piece about why this franchise cannot land a Top 3 player and shouldn’t think of doing so.
But the truth is the media simply wants to either see it happen or watch it fail miserably so we can be the new kings of New York (only due to KD or Kawhi) and the anti Dolan crowds begin to pile on as to why the fans of NY should boycott the franchise and make him suffer. It started during the playoffs against Philly and it would certainly last much longer if we landed two stars and they don’t even land Zion or Morant.
I haven’t seen a single front page this spring that was related to the New York Knicks. The Knicks when bad are relevant through podcast and these semi-journalists that are like Bill Simmons on Twitter for being bad and always finding new ways to be more bad.
Stephen A pushes the KD to NY idea and have now switched to BK because this is the first time we have something to talk about and we are actually well respected. The narrative changes when people are rooting for the Nets to rough up Philadelphia. That gives a great sense of what could be with two stars in a market that has never won a basketball championship and would be put in the same category of Jackie Robinson, Biggie Smalls and with Jay-Z beside him, apart of the fabric of Brooklyn and New York.
It boils down to preference: Manhattan, MSG, blue/orange shoe brand.
Dwight Howard was eligible for a $300m contract deal with Adidas by signing with the Nets which was a huge reason he pushed to be traded here in 2011.
its not even remotely close... most in the national media sitll call us "new jersey". the knicks are somewhere between 10 times and infanity-bajillion-zillion times more popular and hyped then the nets. especially if they are winning. look how much hype there was when it was just amare, or when carmello had them a 2 seed.... hell even linsanity.
if durant won with the knicks, he would be a god. if he won with the nets, he would just be durant with another ring. he wins with the knicks, he enters the GOAT conversation. he is immortalized like messier was.
its not debatable.
