Ainge did a very un-Ainge thing going all in on Kyrie and not leaving himself outs, of which he could've created by not standing pat for 2 years. He's always been a guy who is huge on character and he completely misread Kyrie. Even if Kyrie would stay, how the hell are you gonna sell him on our fanbase again? And how are you going to trust him after the way he conducted himself this year? This is really bad because we are going to set ourselves pretty far back if we don't pursue the Kyrie/Davis angle. But it will fun to watch it unfold at least.

If the offseason goes poorly, I wouldn't be surprised if Danny decides to retire. It'd help his own personal health and it would allow us to hopefully shed the image of being ruthless in trading our players. As much as I'd miss Ainge, I think we'd be in good hands with Mike Zarren running the show.

I’ve been in line with your takes for most of this season. This is a tough situation. I think the only reason Ainge went in as hard for Kyrie as he did was to retain any type of value that IT had. It wasn’t very high at the time, but it was certainly much higher than the negative it is now.

The mistake was not recognizing this and cutting ties at the deadline, though, but then again, I doubt much was appealing out there. Tough situation.

Always hated Kyrie with passion before Ainge traded for him. I thought he was a really dumb person, an iso loving chucker who can't win a thing without LeBron and is massively overrated only for getting sometimes really hot and having fantastic highlight plays between many dumb plays and playing almost no D at all. Obviously was behind Kyrie all the time he was here. But honestly, I am happy Kyrie playing for Celtics period is behind all of us. Won't miss him at all. We will be a better TEAM without him for sure.

He knew when he got him how Kyrie was like but he saw an out for IT0 and was all in. He just believed too much that he could get AD when it was never possible without Kyrie staying

Not necessarily because it's the Lakers -- possibly because he ran back to LeBron's arms after laying an egg in these playoffs.

we don't set ourselves back much at all. we go back to the end of last year, with young improving kids and a team that plays hard and plays together. maybe not a title worthy team, yet. but with kyrie gone i think tatum and brown can go back to being who they are, getting to that next level. tatum in particular could be special. i trade him for AD in a second if i thought AD would stay without kyrie, and ainge just might do that anyways. AD is a very different personality than kyrie. but kyrie was just a bump in the road. it's not like we traded much for him.
