I can't believe I am about to say this, but Jeanie might actually be worse than Jimmy at this basketball thing. This woman has absolutely no idea how to run this organization whatsoever. Her circle of trust, which she relies oh so heavily on, are nothing but a bunch of yes men who is more concerned about their own ass than the well being of the team or Jeanie. All that hype about Jeanie the genius, and she turned out to be the biggest idiot of them all.

I can understand the Lakers take it or leave it stance, though. Lue ostensibly has no leverage, and you would think he’d know he wouldn’t be considered for a job again if not for the peculiar LeBron link. It takes balls for Lue for walking away, or ignorance that he actually thinks he’ll ever be up for another job

Not really, apparently Lue made it quite clear during his interview process that he wanted to coach the Lakers and not just LeBron. Why the Lakers would accept to that and then turnaround and offer him a contract that matches with LeBron's is beyond me.

because when they inevitably fire him in 2 years time, they don't have to shell out as much in moolah
like seriously, what the hell is lue thinking he has any leverage?

Lakers could well have negotiated and offered 5 years with a team option on the 5th, that way you give him a season after LeBron and if it doesn't work, either fire him then or let him walk.

Q) Why the Fook isn't JVG OR Mark Jackson getting interviews?
I mean what's really left now?
we better not just go for Kidd. I mean I like Kidd and all, but swapping Walton for Kidd is Idiotic IMO
Edit: I also think no matter what coach is hired we only going to offer them 3/4 years at most while Lebum is on the team.

Nice move by LAL not to offer Lue a 4 year deal.

Re: Lakers and Lue end contract talks, now considering Vogel, L. Hollins, Mike Woodson, Juwan, Kidd
not going to make a call on whether Lue is the optimal hire as HC but the optics of this and, probably the worse, the guys anticipated to now jump into the pool, are extremely bad. and the timing could not be worse...
is it common for coaching deals to fall apart in professional sports based on contract length..? none immediately spring to my mind... as a few have pointed out, if you punt a coach - in any sport - before end of the term (and this must happen >50% of the time across countries and codes), you just pay out and move on cus there's no cap on mgmt...
that said, it could really only be one of two things: a) cheap; or b) didnt actually want him to be coach but needed to go through those motions for lbj (or whoever..?). are there any other alternatives..?

Re: Lakers and Lue end contract talks, now considering Vogel, L. Hollins, Mike Woodson, Juwan, Kidd
Hey guys, Bucks fan here so I just wanted to give a little insight into the mind of Jason Kidd. The guy was easily the most arrogant, stubborn human being I’ve ever seen in professional sports. He refused to adjust his defensive schemes to fit modern basketball, insisting on double teaming every player on the court who received a pass. This pulled guys out of position for rebounds and led to players scrambling to recover once the ball started moving.
On offense he was Was one of the biggest opponents of the three point shooting movement. He actively discouraged Giannis and Jabari Parker from shooting three-pointers in their first two seasons with Milwaukee. Giannis would be a much better three-point shooter today if Jason Kidd had never been the coach, but his growth was stunted from the first day he stepped on the court.
As far as player development goes, this is another area where Jason Kidd gets way too much credit. Giannis has that Kobe gene, that kind of drive where you literally have to lock the doors of the gym to keep him out. He leaves a night game goes to the practice center and shoots until 1:00 am after some games. He uses his free time to watch game tape and practice defensive rotations. Outside of his family Giannis literally has no other interests or hobbies other than basketball. He put 50 pounds of muscle on his body in four years and constantly worked on his skills to get better. Outside of Giannis and Malcolm Brogdon, Kidd actually has a terrible track record of developing young talent. Guys like Sterling Brown and DJ Wilson wasted away on the bench last year while playing big roles for the team this year when needed. DJ Wilson especially had been written off by our fanbase as even being an NBA player, but the new staff completely turned him around and made him into a nice role player this year.
Lastly, let’s discuss Jason Kidd’s attitude towards modern basketball and analytics. During a meeting with the analytics group they were trying to convince him to change his schemes up a little bit based on the film and data they had collected. Kidd just stuck his fist out to present his championship ring and said something to the effect of “Why should I listen to you guys when I’m the only person in this room with this?” That is Kidd in a nutshell. Frankly, I’ve enjoyed the Lakers soap opera all season so I am PRAYING for Kidd to get this job!!!! The sheer amount of arrogance between Kidd and Lavar could rival the scene where Thanos snaps his fingers in Infinity War. Poof, half your team is gone, just like that.

Re: Lakers and Lue end contract talks, now considering Vogel, L. Hollins, Mike Woodson, Juwan, Kidd
just because of how LeBron is/rolls, it'd be way easier if the next HC is a former african-american player, having that in mind, the best options available are easily Juwan Howard and David Vanterpool
Howard is more recognisable as a name, which sadly has bonus points for LA historically, but Vanterpool has experience playing and coaching both in Europe and the NBA, has been a coach since 2007, and has coached under Stotts in Portland for 7 years, who is an awesome offensive coach
No idea what level of responsability Howard has had in Miami, but Vanterpool is the lead assistant in Portland, basically nº2, I think Juwan has at least Dan Craig above him

We need the Celtics, clippers, or the blazers (once they get eliminated) to fire their coach ASAP

I’d be stunned if he got another HC gig within the next five years...
That said, it’s still a bad look that a coach in such low demand felt empowered enough to turn us down when we didn’t meet his demands.
Numbers rule the universe.

I still say Lue will be back. His negotiating technique failed him this time. I think he knows that he is screwed and will not get another job anywhere.
