Whiteside’s Offseason

Post#1 » by ReturnofMVP3 » Sun May 12, 2019 5:31 pm

What do we gotta do to have him opt out?? Maybe we could threaten to bench him and have a ball boy cut onions beside him every game.

He ain't opting out. He has $27m reasons to just let that deadline cruise by.

Now, he still may get traded - but he's getting paid regardless.

He's opting in and demanding a trade to be a starter some place.

He can demand anything he wants, but unless he can find us a similarly stupid 1 year deal to trade for, he ain't going anywhere until at least after the trade deadline ... and not even then if we're still in contention for the #8 seed.

He'll be busy suing whoever took advantage of his stupidity and stole millions of $$$ from his last big contract.

I don't think he got ripped off. It was his ex-girlfriend that got robbed by Avenatti.

Riley tried to compensate for dishing out so many inflated contracts by backing his way out of them by diminishing Whiteside's role in an effort to get him in an opt out mindset in the offseason cause you won't be playing as much as you would like'.

Rodney McGruder was a casualty of the back out along with Tyler Johnson who's cap space belongs to Ryan Anderson another soon to be gone.

Whiteside has to decide if he wants to be a part of the Back Out Plan.

I think if he's worried about money he has very little leverage. Hornets might have interest but they also may draft a center. They might have interest via trade since they have other undesirable expirings like Bismack Biyombo and possibly Marvin Williams if he opts in. Williams and Biyombo is exactly the return we should be expecting for Whiteside.

I have a question.

If he opts in and has another bad year (limited minutes, will be over 30 next offseason) what type of contract will he really be looking at? 10-12m?

If he opts out now, I think he can still get a 2/40 or 3/55 type deal, which would give him more money long term. Maybe he thinks like that and opts out?

Charlotte if Kemba leaves and they strike out everywhere? They have Batum and some guys on some deals, need to be competitive.
Atlanta if they don't draft Bol or Hayes?
Minnesota visited the KAT/Whiteside thought before, maybe they revisit it?
Washington is just ****ed, I don't think they could afford him but he'd be a good fit
Pelicans could be an option if AD leaves
San Antonio could be an option but don't see them paying him what he wants
Clippers if they strike out but are still close, he would be perfect in the 25 min role for them.

I think there could be some suitors, enough to make him consider it. If he gets hurt this year or plays bad, this might be the last 8 figure pay day he gets.

This draft is littered with big men. No way is Whiteside getting a 2/40 or even 3/55 on the open market. Charlotte is better off drafting Fernando or Bol Bol and using financial resources elsewhere. The only way they take on Whiteside is by us taking off contracts already on their books like Biyombo and Marvin Williams if he opts in. The other teams will also have the chance to draft one of the plethora of solid big man in this draft. The only way Whiteside is finding a home is via trade for other teams expiring deals.

You don't opt out of a $27 million dollar option when your value is declining. That would just be stupid.

he was top 25 in the league in PER, and averaged a double double. I dont think his value is THAT low.

We need him to talk to Latrell Spreewell so Spre can tell him how much more money to feed his family he can make by opting out.

Or just hook him up with Anthony Carter’s agent.
