If we’re taking hunter at 3 we may as well just try to trade down and take him 7th and get something else out of the deal lol

The Ringer on RJ Barrett https://nbadraft.theringer.com/

Cons:
He induces face-palms by forcing contested shots early in the clock, barreling into defenders instead of passing to open players, and attempting wild passes to bail himself out.

He rarely uses his right hand, as if it were tied behind back. It’s critical that he improve his off hand to diversify his shot-creation ability.

His lousy percentages from 3 and the line are alarming since he has good, consistent mechanics.

Lacks natural touch, an issue that is compounded by his diminished athleticism in tight space, which hinders his at-rim scoring.

Inactive off-ball player on offense: He rarely ever cuts or screens at Duke, though his athleticism and versatility could make him a potential threat down the road.

He’s a ball watcher off-ball who routinely misses defensive rotations; on-ball, he often falls out of his stance possibly due to a lack of interest, awareness, or energy.

...Sounds like a Knick!

I just can't feel the hype right now. It was Zion or bust for me. Now...I'm just blah. Whatever. Trade back. Trade for AD to play with KD/Kyrie. Max us out with little to build with going forward. Whatever. Stay with another year of youth movement and a high pick. Whatever.

I was looking at

Kyrie/DSJ/Frank
Dotson/Trier
KD/Knox
Zion
Mitch

Fill in whatever you need. Maybe keep DJ somehow.

Now...whatever. I don't care what they do really. I see them going all in and leaving the cupboard bare when it fails. I hope I'm wrong but...after realizing I was a fool for getting my hopes up...I just don't have the energy to be excited about the 3rd pick at all.

My positives...Cleveland/Chicago/Phoenix got hosed and the Dallas pick going to Atlanta.

Ah yes, people want a championship NOW but do we really even know if the HC is championship level. This goes back to what I've been saying. Even with Zion NY needs to take a year to let transition things settle before reacting with long term decisions. Is Fiz the guy to build the culture. If now them whom?

What if the guy you like to replace Fizdale wants a guy like RJ Barrett on his roster. Oops, you traded him.

What's the rush. Its been 40 years. 1 or 2 more seasons won't matter :D

I'm not saying we should be in a rush. Im only saying that if we take RJ he is going to need the right coach to help develop his game, more so then other prospects. Im perfectly fine with having patience with that.

You know, I live in San Diego and I haven't watched baseball in 10 years. The Padres have sucked for 20 and 162 games of bad baseball is unbearable.

But II started watching the Padres last year (because I knew what they had in the farm system) and I'm enjoying watching a bunch of talented kids like Fernando Tatis Jr and Chris Paddack figure it out. I don't think I'm weird but part of the "fun" of watching this Padres team is we (San Diego) finally have the hope of a better (baseball) tomorrow. These kids make mistakes but they also do **** that make you say 'holy hell, when he figures it out'. So watching the kids play is fun but its also an emotional investment. It build my attachment to the team. You watch them grow make mistakes and develop. Hopefully they win a championship but the "journey" really is part of the fun of sports.

Its those lean/learning years that makes winning such fun.

"Parachuting in" would (obviously) work for may here but for myself I could NEVER love a team of mercenaries as much as I would love watching NY kids grow as a team, develop as men, and become champions.

KD could win 2 championships with NY. He would NEVER be held in the same class as Walt Frazier or Willis Reed. Why is that? The emotional attachment that Knick fans have for "their kids" winning the WC will never be topped by an outsider accomplishing similar feats.

Ask a Warriors fan. Their first ring will never be topped because to them it kinds felt like THEIR accomplishment. They'll take KDs rings too but KD isn't a Warrior like Steph. Steph's theirs. He led them to a championship and for that they will always love him.

The whole mercenary thing just baffles me. What's the accomplishment?

KD would be an icon in NY if he came in and won a title. That is incomparable to him winning in GSW.

Just based on last season is enough to be worried about Fiz no matter what we do. Hopefully he was tanking on purpose.

Brad Stevens was the best coach in the NBA last year, now he can’t manage locker rooms. Worrying about the coach at this current state of the team is nonsensical. The team needs to accumulate talent as it severely lacks any. If competent NBA talent wants him gone then he will be gone.

Building the roster is def more important, but coaching has an impact. You have to look at everything that can help the franchise. Fiz will get more time rightfully so. Depending on how we build, its possible he may not be the right guy.

Honestly, a trade down for Culver might be our best option right now.

PG Kyrie Irving
SG RJ Barrett
SF Kevin Durant
PF Kevin Knox
C Mitchell Robinson

Can someone breakdown the cap situation with a #3 pick?
Who stays and who do we have to let go?

If we haven't come to the point of realizing tanking no longer works, then we deserve another 2 decades of turmoil. Even if Durant/Kyrie have change of hearts and we are a bad team next year, our '20 pick next year means nothing when teams like LAL, Mem, and Pels can just dart 6/7 spots up the board. And if we get Durant and Kyrie but decide against getting AD because we don't want to give up Barrett and next years pick (not the Dallas picks) then, again, you deserve this broken franchise. The only decision we'd need to make, assuming both KD and Kyrie are on board, is do we package Mitch in an AD trade or the Mavs pick(s). We'd be a playoff team so our pick means nothing. Do we put our faith in Mitchell Robinson OR KP bringing about the immediate demise of the Mavericks franchise? That's our choices this offseason.

Why is everyone sure that Morant is going 2nd?

I wouldn't be at all surprised if, after workouts and interviews, Barrett goes to Memphis.

Everyone is just trying to make themselves feel better we missed out on Zion...truth is we deep down know zion is gonna be a star..it stings we deserved that #1 pick.. honestly I rather them try with the youth movement and see what happens again in next yrs draft.

Same here, and while I also like Morant I think that would be unfortunate for us because RJ fills a position of need

We’re going to be trying in “next yrs draft” for the next decade based on these current odds.
