This is a good point, but it's not taking into account free agency for other teams. Cause lebron/kawhi would be better. Pretty much anywhere Kawhi goes as long as there's another star. Russ/PG13? Maybe. Close. Ummm ... Kemba/Doncic/KP? Definitely deeper.
But generally, I agree with your point. No need to gut the roster because Kyrie/KD would be right up there with any duo, and then the rest of the roster would compete with any roster in the league. BUT ... if you wanna be head & shoulders above anyone else (which is always the goal), then KI/KD/AD is the move. That's for sure the best trio in the league ... by FAR.
I think it'll all depend on what management thinks of Mitchell and RJ's chances of turning into that 3rd star rather quickly - while KD's window is still open. The more I think about it, the more it seems like they'll pull the trigger for AD.
I lean towards keeping the kids, but I'm thinking about the Philly/Toronto series right now. Philly made moves to become DEEP with some pretty top-notch talent... and yet Kawhi almost single-handedly eliminated them. Honestly, if we're being completely unemotional about it (and i LOVE mitch), KI/KD/AD is unbeatable.
Jesus, I can't believe the level that we're talking about here. After being the worst franchise in the league for decades lol. Next season is gonna be surreal (provided KD actually comes).
