Come Australia reke. Nosies are the norm here.
Harsh AF penalty, I'd hope this is multiple repeat offenses and even then it's too harsh for recreational drugs imo when he should be serving community or rehab type programs.

Re: Tyreke Evans dismissed and disqualified from league
I'm assuming this is not the first time he has been caught. I also don't get the takes that this is wrong by the NBA to do this. The NBA is not his family or parents. It's not on them to help him in this situation. They're his employer. They have a rule and Evans knew the rule and broke it.

The NBA and NBAPA may have a system in place for helping players in this situation, I don't know. It's fine to prevent guys from playing for violations, but I think removing their whole support system undercuts helping them get past it. The NFL has had a slew of these guys like Josh Gordon.

Re: Tyreke Evans dismissed and disqualified from league
It's not the NBAs job to fix his life. He's got plenty of capital and connections to get help if he wants it. He's a grown man.TheNewEra wrote:Smitson wrote:Rafael122 wrote:Mannix says it's not PED related. I'm guessing it's a hard drug: cocaine, opiods or meth.
Send the guy to rehab and get him help. Don’t ban him for two years and ostracize him.
Exactly if it’s hard drugs the league should of learned from the Odom situation to handle these types of things with more caution.
If you show up to your job on cocaine don't expect your employer to "help you". Expect security to escort you to the sidewalk.

Yeah wtf. This would make it worse.
What is the criteria here? It has to be hard substances like cocaine, meth, etc?

Must be really bad to be "dismissed & disqualified". Hope he gets whatever help he needs.
Yep, this isn't the first or 2nd violation. You need to be a multiple time offender to get a ban like this. The league isn't going to bother publicizing the 2nd or 3rd offense, though it might get leaked.
Basically, this guy has had multiple chances to get right and he's messed it up each time.
Brian Geltzeiler: You see Mark Jackson getting a head coaching job as early as next year?
Adrian Wojnarowski: Not if people make calls on him. Not if an organization is doing their homework and knows all the things he brings with him.

If you told me to guess what Tyreke would be up to, I'd say drinking. But it's got to be worse than that right?

If I remember right, when this happened to OJ they said this ban is for drugs like methamphetamines, coke, heroin, etc

Birdman is the only player that I can think of who came back after a two year ban.

If as an organization, you devise rules which are ill-placed and inappropriate, you should expect to hear about it from your customers. As fans, we have the right to engage the league and express our contempt with this approach. No one gets to make rules without being questioned by anyone. We all answer to someone.

Who says you can't help him and not let him play in the NBA?

They wouldn’t just ban someone for 2 years for one failed drug test though, right? It’s got to have been multiple times, right? Didn’t he have a “conduct detrimental to the team” type of suspension earlier on the season? Maybe that was a first or second offense.
He may really need help. He had such a great season last year too.
He was late a couple times the first few weeks and the team captains (Vic, Thad, and Collison) talked it out with Pritchard and McMillan and all agreed on a one game suspension. According to Tyreke, it’s the first time in his career he’d ever been expected to show up on time or been held accountable for it.

Well then this is ridiculous.
NBA should be looking to help a guy like this not just slap him with a 2 year ban. Not sure how many chances he’s had but still.
He wasn’t caught on game day was he?
WTF!? Is the NBA some kind of babysitter? Freaking millionaire needs help from the NBA!? How about someone close to him or himself seeks help?
Yeah, rehab will only help if he wants it to. Can’t force people into rehab who don’t want the help and this can’t be strike 1. I’m sure he’s had other chances that he’s blown and now he has to face the consequences.
Maybe this will be what he needs to get the help he needs. Playing basketball is the last thing he should be worried about if he wants to get his life in order.

Tyreke Evans has a career earnings of around $75 million. He’s not hurting for money, but he almost certainly cost himself maybe $50 million or so if his career is over at the age of 29.
AKME got to go

Yeah. Taking him away from his best possible support system has never made sense as a policy--not if you care about your players as human beings.
