It's not for PED or Marijuana. OJ Mayo and Chris Anderson both got dismissed for hard drugs.
I do wonder can you go broke being a drug addict with $76 million career earnings?

Send the guy to rehab and get him help. Don’t ban him for two years and ostracize him.

Hopefully that’s a part of the process. However, in a way banning someone from the league with the possibility of getting reinstated, helps them. It gives them the wake up call that they can’t continue living this lifestyle. Someone like Chris Andersen cleaned up his life and got reinstated. Meanwhile, look at how many musicians — who don’t suffer this consequence — have died because they continued to uncontrollably party while they suffered no professional consequences? Just enabled their lifestyle.

Who's giving him a 2nd chance? I just think it's sad no matter how stupid.

Exactly if it’s hard drugs the league should of learned from the Odom situation to handle these types of things with more caution.
It's not the NBAs job to fix his life. He's got plenty of capital and connections to get help if he wants it. He's a grown man.

If you show up to your job on cocaine don't expect your employer to "help you". Expect security to escort you to the sidewalk.

It’s not unheard of for big companies to take sympathy boost its public image by putting a worker in rehabilitation. Don’t think the league would try it’s beet to get this fixed if it’s a all star player? A 2 year ban just seems excessive

They wouldn’t just ban someone for 2 years for one failed drug test though, right? It’s got to have been multiple times, right? Didn’t he have a “conduct detrimental to the team” type of suspension earlier on the season? Maybe that was a first or second offense.

He may really need help. He had such a great season last year too.

There's a progressive policy. I think this kind of ban is when you are caught four times if I recall right.

Edit; Someone already posted it, sorry.

This is pretty sad though. Such a waste.

Damn. Decent player and now his career is practically over.

He could still make money overseas I guess.

The NBA doesn't play around when it comes to bolivian marching powder or heroin/codeine/meth. Nor should they.

I try not to judge because I know what it's like to have an addiction but I never understood why anyone would want to go harder than weed and liquor. I hope he gets treatment and therapy for whatever underlying issue is driving his drug abuse.

Yeah. Taking him away from his best possible support system has never made sense as a policy--not if you care about your players as human beings.

This is the absurd, no business in america operates this was and cuban got killed when people found out he gave snead a second chance after his dv situation with rehab etc, no, you break the rules multiple times as evans apparently has, gtfo, you choose drugs over basketball, deal with it. He has plenty money to get help. Even if the just suspended him a year no team would touch him right now anyway so he'd be out the league regardless

It's not on them to help him in this situation. They're his employer. They have a rule and Evans knew the rule and broke it.

If as an organization, you devise rules which are ill-placed and inappropriate, you should expect to hear about it from your customers. As fans, we have the right to engage the league and express our contempt with this approach. No one gets to make rules without being questioned by anyone. We all answer to someone.

I'm not saying you don't have the right to voice your opinion on this. Im saying I don't see why some are so against this rule. You test positive for drugs multiple times, you get a 2 year ban. It's not the NBA's job to babysit these guys and fix their personal problems. We also have no clue what kind of help they offered (if any) after the first time someone gets caught with drugs. But again it's not the NBA's business, they aren't his loved ones and close friends, and most importantly they aren't him, ultimately it's up to him to make the right decisions.

The NBA is his employer. And the NBA does a hell of a lot more than 99% of companies to help their employees. Most jobs don't have multi day long rookie retreats to help teach new employees on how to handle everything. Many jobs don't have any kind of leniency when it comes to drugs. I know someone who got fired because weed fell out of their bag at work.

Athletes have gone broke with a lot more money than that and no drugs.

People really give too much sympathy to drug abusers, if you choose drugs you have to accept what comes with those choices, this is 2019, everybody is well aware of the impacts drugs can have before they do them

Big difference between turning a blind eye(Earl K, pants DJ) and trying to support a guy through an addiction issue. If the Mavs had removed those guys from their roles, yet continued to stay in contact and help them get some help that would have been just fine.

But we see this a lot with drug offenders--they aren't likely to turn their lives around if you remove the most stable areas of their life. They have personal accountability of course they do, but we should be looking out for each other especially the NBA and one of their players.

It's really annoying when people assume money makes everyone's lives perfect and they never have struggles. That's just not a real thing. And yes he can probably afford rehab, but sobriety is about more than just a 30 day detox.

It’s almost never that simple. Some of these “drugs” are the same ones being prescribed by licensed physicians, and some of these users are the people they were originally prescribed for.

Not to mention, the individual is already being punished. Not sure why criminal punishment would also be necessary. That’s like criminalizing obesity.

Exactly. No one is shoving the drugs in Tyreke’s nose. It was his choice. No sympathy from me.

Well then this is ridiculous.

NBA should be looking to help a guy like this not just slap him with a 2 year ban. Not sure how many chances he’s had but still.

He wasn’t caught on game day was he?

Since when is an employer required to help an employee with personal decisions they made that had nothing to do with the work place? Maybe I am off base here, but the NBA isn't required to do anything, if they do end up helping him with rehab or w/e (we don't have a lot of details) then that is just a courtesy. The NBA is a business not a rehab center.
