Re: Tyreke Evans dismissed and disqualified from league
This would explain his extremely up and down play. He's clearly dealing with some issues and I hope the NBA chooses to be supportive and offer resources even if they are banning him.

I do wonder can you go broke being a drug addict with $76 million career earnings?
Easily.
I wouldn't be surprised to find out he is broke or near broke right now.

Well then this is ridiculous.
NBA should be looking to help a guy like this not just slap him with a 2 year ban. Not sure how many chances he’s had but still.
He wasn’t caught on game day was he?
WTF!? Is the NBA some kind of babysitter? Freaking millionaire needs help from the NBA!? How about someone close to him or himself seeks help?
Yes the nba has a duty of care to their players. They are expected to do all this stuff outside of basketball for the league the league should also help players in trouble. This isn’t uncommon in sports.

This is the absurd, no business in america operates this was and cuban got killed when people found out he gave snead a second chance after his dv situation with rehab etc, no, you break the rules multiple times as evans apparently has, gtfo, you choose drugs over basketball, deal with it. He has plenty money to get help. Even if the just suspended him a year no team would touch him right now anyway so he'd be out the league regardless
Big difference between turning a blind eye(Earl K, pants DJ) and trying to support a guy through an addiction issue. If the Mavs had removed those guys from their roles, yet continued to stay in contact and help them get some help that would have been just fine.
But we see this a lot with drug offenders--they aren't likely to turn their lives around if you remove the most stable areas of their life. They have personal accountability of course they do, but we should be looking out for each other especially the NBA and one of their players.
It's really annoying when people assume money makes everyone's lives perfect and they never have struggles. That's just not a real thing. And yes he can probably afford rehab, but sobriety is about more than just a 30 day detox.
This isnt a first second or 3rd offense by their policy guidelines, im sure plenty support has been provided, at some point you gotta cut bait and give people a reality check. Maybe it'll be a wake up call for him to get his affairs in order, maybe he'll od and get worse, who knows, but it isn't the NBA's place to take that journey with him.

Send the guy to rehab and get him help. Don’t ban him for two years and ostracize him.
Yeah. Taking him away from his best possible support system has never made sense as a policy--not if you care about your players as human beings.
How do you know this is his best possible support system? Maybe it is, but maybe it's the exact thing he needs to step away from. Maybe the NBA is his biggest detriment. I mean to say the NBA is his biggest support system seems like a HUGE slight to his family. I don't know the guy so maybe it is his biggest support system, but unless you know Tyreke Evans personally this is a really hasty assumption.

I'm going to regret this but it's crazy that sports leagues take a zero tolerance approach on drug use and end up punishing rather than helping, but violence and domestic violence get a slap on the wrist.

Is it the NBA's job to be his best possible support system? The NBA is his job first and foremost. I could see the argument for someone struggling to make a living working at Best Buy and them firing him for drugs. How is he doing to afford rent and so on, the stress from that is just going to make things worse. But again that's not Best Buy's business.
Evans should have no worry when it comes to financial support. So why should the NBA be his best support system? It's not their job to be that. His support system should be friends and loved ones. Now that can easily include people inside the NBA and even NBA owners (no clue his relationship with Memphis or Indy's owner). But I just don't see how any of this falls on the NBA to try and pick him up from this. The vast majority of companies send the packing and don't give an option to maybe come back in 2 years.

if you are ignorant about addition probably best to just stay quiet on the topic.
Uhhh no part of getting addicted to something is doing it in the first place, idk what his drug so i have no comment on that, but knowing everything that comes with things like crack, heroine, meth, etc, if you're foolish enough to tey it and get addicted to it thats your bad, im not going to feel sympathy because you're hooked to it, how about dont do it to begin with. You can't get hooked to something u dont try

Must be really bad to be "dismissed & disqualified". Hope he gets whatever help he needs.
Noel and Thabo got five games after they failed a third time the weed test

Yeah, don't do this. Addiction is a disease often caused by trauma or mental health, and it's gripping. Show some compassion.

FWIW, if it was opioids, the league probably doesn’t ban him in this manner. Sports teams are sympathetic to that parictular addiction because of how frequently they are (still) recommended after even light procedures.
My gut is cocaine. I doubt it’s meth or anything harder, because that stuff really can ruin ya outwardly. Maybe MDMA?

McGary got what I think is the harshest punishment for weed and he never got back into the league. I've heard these guys get heads up when they're getting tested, which is likely how JR has stayed in the league, so I wonder if its related to the kind of relationship you have with your organization/other folks involved.
Also, a lot of the league smokes weed, some do other stuff. The arbitrary testing and enforcement is not to me a sufficient deterrent.

After his historic rookie of the year season he set the bar higher than he could realistically achieve, that might of been what led him to drugs.

Sometimes the only help drug addicts are able to respond to is the reality of rock bottom with real consequences. Nobody should be guaranteed a job when they are choosing hard drugs. Hope he gets and stays clean.
