I've had this feeling for awhile now. They want to instantly contend... or be good enough to get the fan base energized again. The moves they have been trying to make reflect wanting high profile stars that put them in the news again. I think the post Magic 90's impressed upon them that not having a top star but having a competitive team isn't what they want. This family lives off the Lakers..... That is very different than 95% of other sports franchises. They have a brand that they need to keep in the spotlight to maintain their lifestyles. Both are a very "LA" thing.

Isn’t that the guy that tweeted that Rob’s performance as a GM last year was so shady that Jeanie was in fact already figuring out a way to void Rob’s contract? Lol
