Draft Thread: Knicks got #3 - Combine and Beyond

Lets not act like De'Aaron Fox was this unbelievable prospect the entire time. He was projected to go like 6-10 and had a great tournament. Ja Morant was more dominant for a longer period of time. Fox's jumper wasn't good at all either and he got by on his speed and quickness. Morant is a way better passer and playmaker. That makes him better coming out, IMO.

Fox's level of competition was significantly higher, and he came out in a much stronger draft. Morant just got through one of the weakest schedules in one of the weakest conferences in the NCAA and is entering a much weaker draft.

Their draft position isn't an apples to apples comparison, or a reflection on their comparative skill.

the main weaknesses morant has compared to fox are: 1. defense 2. lack of physicality projection.

but if morant experience the same shooting growth fox has seen, he'll still be one of the top offensive ceiling guys in the under-23 bunch.

I think Ja is a great prospect but I would stick with DSJ for now. He showed enough flashes imo that he can be an all star in due time. We’re most likely getting RJ anyways, who I am still a little skeptical of but am starting to warm up to.

I dunno man, I still think the Griz take him.
They don’t own their pick next year.
They might as well ride it out and stay competitive with Conley, JJ, Barrett, Jonas, Bruno (whos improved a lot).
I think in a workout setting RJ is gonna show out.

fox had a more projectable jumper, was a much better finisher, and actually played defense. not taking into account his level of competition yes he was a better prospect coming out then morant. ja’s the superior passer. athleticism wise fox gets down the floor quicker but ja is more explosive vertically.

The Lakers drafted Magic, Cooper, and Worthy
The Celtics drafted Bird, McHale, Ainge, Rick Carlisle, and Sam Vincent
Golden State: Curry, Klay, Green

Every great team usually has at least 3 players they drafted and developed. They were all young at one point. You have to pay your dues. There are others, like the Spurs. Far more successful examples of building than there is FA or trading for Super stars.

The need to pay your dues is my whole point.

KD won't be able to rely on these guys in the short term. I doubt he's interested in waiting until he's 34 so Knox has time to develop.

You're missing my point. I am not an advocate for signing a super maxxed 31 year old player. I'll roll with the kids while they grow and pay dues. At least as long as they have a solid veteran presence on the team to help them be pros. Impatience will be every teams downfall. There are tons of examples.
