Envision Inglewood

Post#1 » by WC NBA Fan » Thu May 23, 2019 3:24 pm

I don't know if anyone knows about this but I stumbled upon it when googling articles about Inglewood and public transportation.

http://envisioninglewood.org/transportation-solutions/inglewood-transit-connector/

This new project, that they hope to have finished by 2023, would be an elevated monorail system that would transport fans from the downtown Inglewood MTA light rail stop through downtown Inglewood, to the Forum then down Prairie all the way to the Clipper's proposed arena. Ballmer's project is highlighted all over the project's website so they definitely are banking on the arena happening.

I've always said that MTA should just use a rail spur at the corner of Florence & Prairie and transport fans down that way but it wouldn't be needed if this project comes to fruition.

They came up with the concept around the time that Ballmer settled on the Inglewood site back in 2017. From what I gather, the EIR is pretty much done and they would be able to break ground on it soon enough to get it done by 2023.

For comparisons sake, BART, the rapid transit system in the bay area, did a similar project where they have a monorail of sorts that connects from the Coliseum BART station to the Oakland airport. That route is 3.2 miles compared to just 1.8 miles for this one and it only took 4 years to build so the 2023 finish date doesn't seem too far fetched. That would be right around the time that Ballmer would be finishing up on the arena.

It would be good to have a good public transport option to game nights, given LA's infamous traffic reputation.

But that may be years before Clippers would investigate another option.

If the Clippers do indeed settle on the Inglewood site, this transit connector solves all the problems.

If they went with the Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw site that was discovered in the email discovery phase of the lawsuit then the puzzle is solved being that the new Crenshaw/LAX line goes right there.

Crenshaw is South Central?

Why would they run a line to LAX to there?

Of course they're not going to put an arena in Bel Air or anything like that. But it would be great to put transport links to it.

Here is the website for the project. It's been under construction for awhile now and is almost up and running. The first stop, Martin Luther King, is the one that I was referring to in the hypothetical event of moving to the Crenshaw mall location.

The downtown Inglewood stop is the one that will connect to the Inglewood transit connector, that would then take fans to the Clipper arena should the more likely Inglewood project happen.

As you can see, it also has an aviation/century stop. That one connects to the LAX people mover which should be done well before the Olympics.

OK, didn't realize Inglewood is so close to LAX. Though one time I really seeing the Forum from the plane I was on as it was making its approach to LAX.
