Not so fast culver could be heading to cleveland?

If the Cavaliers had landed the No. 2 overall draft pick, they may have settled on Texas Tech shooting guard Jarrett Culver — even over the likes of Ja Morant and R.J. Barrett.

That is how much the Cavs are said to like Culver. It’s hard to know if any of this is true or just a gigantic smokescreen (Culver is about the third draft prospect the Cavs are said to really, really want.)

But for the sake of argument, let’s say Culver is indeed the Cavaliers’ man. Let’s say the New Orleans Pelicans take Zion Williamson at No. 1, the Memphis Grizzlies go with Moran at No. 2, and the Knicks take Barrett after that.

In that scenario, all that stands between the Cavs and Culver is … drumroll, please … LeBron James’ Los Angeles Lakers.

“At No. 5, though, there’s a pretty good chance the Cavs can get their man, if the Lakers pass on him at No. 4 — though that is no guarantee,” Sean Deveney of Sporting News wrote. “Culver had good numbers at the Chicago pre-draft combine, measuring 6-6.75 with a 6-9.5 wingspan.”

The Cavs interviewed Culver last week, and according to sources, walked away feeling as if he would be a great fit in the culture they are trying to build and in new coach John Beilein’s system.

But again, what happens after the top three picks is when the draft mysteries are really expected to begin. Along with Culver, Virginia small forward De’Andre Hunter, Duke wing Cam Reddish, Vanderbilt point guard Darius Garland and rising North Carolina combo guard Coby White are all expected to fall in the Nos. 5-10 range.

There can be so many top 10, 10 slots at max

1- Zion
2 - Morant
3 - Barrett
4 - Garland
5 - Hunter
6 - White
7 - Culver
8 - Reddish
9 -Rui
10 - Doumbouya ??
11 - Hayes
12 - Little
13 - Fernando, Bol, Langford, Porter, Bitadze, Clarke

So if a another center like Clarke or Fernando get chosen before us by Atlanta, Minesota or Washington, we should have a choice of Rui, Doumbouya, Little, Reddish, Hunter, Culver....

Picking at 13 is actually the worst that could have happen, the Iggie CrowCat curse is strong we cannot get a break...nobody can figure out a good and clear pick at 13th, it is like trying to solve a crazy formula, everything before that is almost a no brainer..

After spending these final couple of weeks in May traversing the country to attend agent-organized workouts of draft prospects, the Heat will begin hosting players for individual workouts and interviews in June.

And count Southern California guard Kevin Porter Jr. among those who have booked a visit to Heat headquarters, according to a league source.

We’re told the Heat is intrigued by the scoring ability, athleticism and high ceiling of Porter. But Miami needs a comfort level with a player whose limited body of work includes a brief suspension and only 21 college games.

And that's fine if they do. The Cavs liked Dion Waiters and Tristan Thompson over other options as well. The Cavaliers have pretty much aced their exams when they've had the option of choosing first overall in can't miss drafts. Other than that, their draft history is pretty muddled.

The last glimpse I had of Culver was him getting stomped by Hunter in the national championship game. He was up and down all year, but when it came to winning time, Hunter dropped bombs in the 2nd half, and Culver let him steal the show. Hunter is bonafide. Culver has stats.

Hunter understands IT. I look forward to him dropping, and some team getting lucky, and then years from now being recognized as some sort of genius due to another team's misdiagnosis.

This is a day of celebration for those on the KPJ train.

I'm glad we're bringing him in for a workout, I hope he blows the Heat away.

According to a league source, a contingent of seven Heat officials –including president Pat Riley – attended Priority Sports’ Chicago workout on Friday for nine prospects:

Gonzaga forward Brandon Clarke, Purdue two-time All American guard Carsen Edwards, Maryland power forward Bruno Fernando, Wisconsin power forward Ethan Happ, Virginia guard Ty Jerome, Nebraska forward Isaiah Roby, Tennessee swingman Admiral Schofield, DePaul guard Max Strus and Belmont swingman Dylan Windler, who averaged 21.3 points and shot 43 percent on threes last season.

I tell you what Doc. You certainly got Barry Jackson and and the South Florida media on your side cause they all seem to be foaming at the mouth for KPJ. KPJ just worked out for San Antonio and reportedly got worked by a second round/undrafted free agent. But Miami has to do there due diligence so it's a no brainer KPJ gets a workout. KPJ is a Roc Nation client and we have a great working relationship with them so I can't say i'm surprised he's working out with us at all.

Need to make an avatar bet with Dr_Heat. If he succeeds, and proves me wrong, I will change my avy to one of Dr_Heat's choice for one year. Some parameters will have to be set, of course.

This should happen after his rookie season, since KPJ is an extraordinary talent with the mental intellect of an astrophysicist. His god given talent is so obvious that he will likely elbow Zion out of the discussion as best player in this class.

If not, I will choose an avatar for Dr_Heat that will showcase his ability as an excellent talent evaluator.

What do ya think, doc?

Still waiting on FTH to reply on the sig bet concerning Nassir Little not getting drafted before our pick. I've got some good stuff brewing, and would appreciate the chance to see a poster of FTH's ilk back up his strong opinions with a lil' wager of sorts.

By the way Carsen Edwards name has come up a lot with the Miami Heat. And I think it can't be ignored anymore. I never seen him play so I have no real opinion on his game.
