This is huge. From what I understand this guy had a major role in several of the trades the 76ers pulled off during the Process which, say what you want about the optics of that time, were generally great deals.
But that's not even the best part. The team, or maybe Glen, is actually going out and recruiting top executives to work in the FO. That's unprecedented for this team. And they're willing to spend as I'm pretty sure his position didn't exist before now. It's crazy.
I've been cautiously optimistic during this time after getting burned by Thibs but it's getting harder and harder to keep that "cautiously" around.

It's interesting Rosas choosed two different trees and aproaches:
Pascucci was director of global scouting in Brooklyn. He was one of the first Sean Marks signings, which tie him to the Spurs tree. He was credited for finding Kurucs last draft.
Gupta worked closely to Hinkie and Ben Falk (owner of Cleaning the Glass advanced stat site) after Morey signed him early on his Rocket tenure to help with the Rockets analytic database, but exceeded expectations and was involved in cap management advisory.
Two different approaches, one more classic and old fashioned, the other more creative and adept to finding value where others could not find any.
But what is really remarkable is that those guys moved from organization that value them, which makes me think people is high on Rosas vision.
Seems like good things could happen.

Thank God we will have nothing to do with Hinkie. That would have been close to enough to make me quit following the Wolves. Gupta was not the one with the disgusting plan he just carried out the plan to the best of his abilities.
The way I hear it Gupta will be the #2 man in the FO behind only Rosas and ahead of Layden.

That plan got them farther in 6 years than we have in 14. I'd take Hinkie as GM anyday of the week.

They still haven't had any significant success and I hope they never get any. This argument has been played out a lot, but having a plan to lose as much as possible for three consecutive seasons disgusts me and judging by the teams that people want to lose the most thread many agree with me. Some people consider it praiseworthy. If you are among them that is your right.

Better to lose with a purpose and focus than just because you're bad. They stuck to their plan and now are legitimate contender in this league. Even if Hinkie came here I don't think we'd do what the Sixers. They tanked because they needed a star, we already have KAT. Building a contender around a star is a different process than trying to build a contender from scratch with no good players.

Their purpose was to manipulate the draft order to acquire high level talents. That is officially against the rules of the NBA. You know the arguments pro and con. Until they make an eastern conference finals I will not consider them contenders of any kind.

The difference here is the former number 2, Layden, is still on the payroll. They've added to the FO without letting anyone go.

I imagine What they are spending on the FO they are saving on the coach

Assuming Layden will still be in a GM-type role sure. I wouldn't be surprised if he's shifted to a scouting position.

Re: Offseason Team News/Updates
But while Gupta’s connection to Morey may have helped him get his foot in the door, he was also fortunate enough to work in an environment that was built on meritocracy. Emboldened by the open environment Morey and Hinkie created, Gupta, who became an expert on the ins and outs of the NBA’s Collective Bargaining Agreement while developing the trade machine at ESPN, began branching out, pitching trade ideas to Morey and Hinkie despite not having the job title most would deem necessary to be taken seriously.
One such instance was the buildup to the summer of 2010, the year of LeBron, when every team in the league was clearing cap space, convincing themselves that they had a real chance to sign James and turn their franchise around. The Rockets took the the road less traveled, using their cap space to capitalize on the rest of the league’s unrealistic optimism in order to gain additional youth and draft picks, such as Jordan Hill, a future 1st round draft pick, and the right to swap first round picks with the Knicks, pieces which would prove valuable as the team tried to rebound from the devastating injuries to Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady.
That trade, according to those involved with the Houston front office at the time, was the brainchild of Gupta. Over the years this would prove to be Gupta’s forte, even more so than the comfort level with statistics that got him in the door.
