Re: Battle for L.A. 2018-19
Oh man I feel so bad for Vogel. He’s a likeable person and a really good coach, but he’s gonna be so underminded. Only way Kidd is not the coach by December is they come firing out of the gates. Which could happen, cause he’s a pretty good defensive coach that will know how to use guys around Lebron on the other end. But he’s gonna have Kidd breathing on his neck gunning for his job every step of the way. Which come to think of it, might be their FO’s plan all along, seeing how they reacted at the allstar break after they put feelers out that they might replace Walton with Kidd and everyone laughed at them.

Re: Battle for L.A. 2018-19
We are really bringing up Kidd’s domestic violence in 2019? Seriously, when was the last time this was brought up in the media?
For a month and a half, he’s been linked to these Lakers and yesterday, DV has to come up?
What a joke. Cancel culture is ridiculous.
And, that seems completely like Ramona Shelburne’s agenda...not the Lakers’. If it was the Lakers’ they just wouldn’t hire him.
The Raiders, will not hire anyone with that kind of background whatsoever since Fred Biletnikoff’s daughter was killed by her boyfriend. Zero tolerance. Lmfao at DV is why he can be the assistant but not the HC.

Ramona’s agenda is whatever Jeannie tells her it is though. And they seem to be very much worried about public perception, way too much, so that report is probably part of their idea of good press somehow. But yeah I defo agree with you about cancel culture. Not like Kidd needs it to have a toxic reputation as an NBA coach, looking strictly at what he’s done while on the job.

We’ll see. She’s been known to push the cancel culture on DV on her own in the past.
If it is Jeanie’s agenda, my bet is Shelburne put it at issue first and made it Jeanie’s agenda. Don’t see many more people picking this up either.

Magic admits that he doesn't put in the work by spending much time in the Lakers front office with varied interests, but packages those interests as running other businesses instead of also noting the takes significant time off for recreation including his annual yacht trips which tend to last for multiple months. Then, he goes on to detail about Pelinka's backstabbing before noting that a couple of other Buss brothers wanting to position themselves for more influence.
The Lakers are undoubtedly a premier brand worth a lot in sports, but at the same time and like other once lofty brands, brands are eventually devalued by ongoing mismanagement. Sure, the Lakers may be afforded more margin for error given the loyalties of a committed fan base in a major media market a la the Yankees, but if they're not careful, they could eventually find themselves among Kodak, Sears and Roebuck, Enron, MCI, Lehman Brothers and Theranos. Or more aptly, the Charlotte Hornets / New Orleans Pelicans franchise that found itself in financial trouble with the league stepping in to pay its bills and running operations.
Of course, it is highly unlikely to ever reach that point given that Jeanie is supposed to have good business acumen, but dwindling interest will eventually lead to dwindling profits. Again, that is highly unlikely to happen any time soon given the committed albeit myopic loyalty of the fan base, but as I said, sustained incompetence can take away potential interest from generations who didn't experience the Lakers' glory days. The point is you can only rest on your laurels for so long.
Now Magic is blaming the Pelicans, specifically Dell Demps, for leaking the details of the Anthony Davis trade offer. Nevermind that he and Rich Paul tried to strong arm the Pelicans send AD to the Lakers with the Brow's trade request. Magic still didn't own up to the bad trades including the Zubac trade by only owning up to not re-signing Brook Lopez. According to him, Zubac only did well playing with LeBron despite the fact that Kellerman pointed out that he had better numbers with the Clippers. He further says that using Zubac's salary slot to pursue free agents was a higher priority. Really? Zubac is an RFA, as Magic acknowledged, and could have easily been moved on from with options to either not match an offer sheet or renounce his Bird rights rather than trade him for Muscala. What was Magic going to use that cap space on, anyway? Another Beasley, whom he had to include in the very same Zubac trade?
Magic then goes on to say that he needed to learn from his mistakes and that he wasn't making excuses...before saying that the Lakers had to endure injuries. The theme of the evening was that Magic has no regrets even as he was trying to excuse his own mistakes. It's pathetic that Magic says Jeanie should stop listening to people just because she likes them while ignoring the very fact that was the only reason he got the job in the first place since he's for damn sure ain't qualified for the role. As if that wasn't enough, he pulls out his small violin and says that he's made sacrifices such as not taking his wife out to the movies every Friday or whatever when most basketball executives devote their lives to the craft. Plus, he intended to be in it for only 3 years, anyway. Does he want the Congressional Medal of Honor for good measure?
Dude has no credibility as a Lakers shill or former basketball executive.

When I became interested in basketball circa 2010 full time, Magic Johnson was a minority owner of the Lakers, and had appeared on ESPN as a guest panelist. Is he better off not being involved in basketball in any way, shape or form? A sabbatical from the sport, if you will.

Snoop, it's been like that since 2013. Have you been living under a rock?
You know I've always found it funny that Laker fans are so sure that they would've been serious contenders or even won a title if the CP trade was not vetoed. Um, Kobe was on a decline and started being injury prone. Odom and Gasol werr part of the trade. Bynum was basically done and useless after 2012. And no way in hell they could've afforded both CP and Dwight with Kobe still looking for a fat retirement contract. CP was still in a better situation with us. Their main argument is that they're the Lakers and we're the Clippers. Lol
Delusional morons.

REAL GM:
I never liked Magic except on the court, where I think he's still underrated. Off the court, he's a phony, although I'm surprised to hear he was abusive. Me, I think he was trying to do an inspiration/bravado thing--get up or get out!--but unfortunately for him, his bravado was never justified as an executive. As a Laker player, and maybe the greatest Laker of all time, sure. As a PoBO and as a coach before that, he was always overmatched, by people who actually good at that stuff.
[Lawrence Frank? A proven better NBA coach and a better NBA GM than Magic?. Just sayin'....]
To the rest:
Sports are a man's game, or so we say. It's like war except you don't actually get killed or even shot at and the worst thing that happens to you is you tear up a knee or something. So let's get real?
We have people working in the Lakers' front office--the toy store of American commerce, where money flows like water--who have panic attacks?
Grow the f*** up.
In contrast, Steve Ballmer, although only a modest success as chief of Microsoft, is the exact opposite of Magic here. Magic is a 20th century man, Ballmer one of the 21st. People don't have panic attacks at Ballmer's Microsoft ot Ballme's Clippers. You might be able to bully people into adequacy, but you can't bully anyone into excellence.
And for the record, Microsoft is now worth $1 trillion US American dollars. The Lakers are worth maybe $3 billion. Do the zeroes. Next to Ballmer, Magic was always waaaaaaaaaay out of his league.
A Lakers spokesperson said Johnson wasn't reprimanded for unprofessional workplace behavior and that no official complaints were filed.
"He comes off to the fan base with the big love and the smile," said one ex-Lakers athletic training official who interacted directly with Johnson. "But he's not -- he's a fear monger."
At least two staffers suffered panic attacks.
As one ex-Lakers star privately told confidants, "It's f----ng crazy over there."
