We can literally survive anything that happens and come out as a top 3 team in the East, maybe even more depending on how much damage the Bucks, Raps and Sixers take in free agency ..I think Horford would be the only difficult loss for us to recover from, just because we won't really find any other player who could provide what he does.
Our absolute worst case scenario would be losing all the free agents..Horford, Kyrie, Baynes, Mook and Rozier..at that point you're left with Tatum, Brown, Smart, Hayward, Semi, Robert Williams, 3 first round draft picks and like 40+ mil capspace to spend. I could certainly think of like one or two or twenty teams who would be pretty thrilled to be in such a position.
Al is not getting any younger or more durable such that him opting out altogether potentially isn't the worst thing--if they can indeed bag another max in his place. But leaving the team with an aggregate one All-Star appearance (Gordo's --or say, Gordo's and Al's, but Al can't stay healthy) and having only mid- to late-1st rounders is neither prime rebuilding or likely competitive with the top 3 teams in the East. It is more fluttering about in mediocrity.
That said, I could be up for the right defensive and distributive vet 1 and 5 to team with JB, JT and GH as a three-headed offensive lead. That and the right new coaches on Brad's staff could be interesting. I'd rather see that than a replay of last season that simply returns the dysfunction we just lived through.
I disagree but I think it depends on how you see Tatum and Brown. I see both guys as big time two way players if their usage is right under Brad's system. I like Hayward having a comeback year also. You take Morris, Rozier, Kyrie and Horford off and you build your offense around those 3 really good scorers, with the natural improvement all 3 guys should show and I could see them all posting numbers around the 17-20 ppg area. That could end up being the best big 3 in the East next season if a guy like Butler leaves Philly. Round out the roster with players that can shoot, defend and play a role and you can easily be a very good team.
I also value the draft picks we have more than you do. I don't think having top 5 picks is what makes teams winners..I think hitting on the late ones is really what sets a team up. You look at teams like Phoenix, Sacto, Orlando who seem to always be in the top 8, yet go nowhere..You look at GS and Steph and Klay were high picks, but the key to everything there is Draymond Green who was found late. You look at Denver with Harris. Murray and what set them up to be a contender is that they found Jokic in the second round. Toronto found Siakam at the 27th spot and he is key to them being in the finals outside Kawhi, who was the 15th pick himself. Giannis was the 15th, Middleton the 39th and Brogdon the 36th. You have to be able to hit on these later picks and that is something Danny has failed to do. The last time he hit on a pick that late was Rondo and he was key to us winning a championship and extended our window for about 2-3 years by becoming an All Star. If such a scenario does play out, we have to find a way to strike gold on one of these 3 first round picks. Maybe the hit was already made with Robert Williams also..we will see. I think he will be a very good player soon..
We need a little luck also. Our entire rebuild has been planned out and executed perfectly. The Hayward injury was so unlucky and it kind of destroyed a lot. We need something unexpected to go right for us next year.
