The Next Big Mets' Acquisition IS . . .

Post#1 » by HarthorneWingo » Mon Aug 20, 2007 1:16 am

The stars are all in allignment for us to sign JOHAN SANTANA. He's upset at the Twins for trading away Luis Castillo; we have Luis Castillo; Santana is a free agent at the end of the year; the Twins won't make the playoffs; the Mets will win the Division (that's right!); and he is at the top of his game (and just struck out 17 hitters in one game).

Also, Zambrano just signed with the Cubs. And, I believe, that Santana is a better pitcher than Dontrelle Willis.

I think Johan will look VERY good in a Mets uniform next year.

.....

1. Johan is not a free agent after this year.
2. He's not upset that they traded away Luis Castillo, he's upset they didnt better the team and they talk about the future.
3. Johan Santana still isnt a FA after this year.
4. He just struck out 17 batters, that will just add to his HOF career and is another reason the twins will re sign him.
5. Where does Dontrelle Willis come into the equation?
6. If Johan Santana gets traded which he wont, they would command Jose Reyes/David Wright + top prospects.
7. Johan Santana will be a twin next year.

johan is a possiblity. but that's in 2 years. (i'm not willing to sell the farm for a pitcher in his late 20's.).

the next "big" mets acqusition i'm really not sure who he is. i hope NYM trade for a SP. but oswalt/willis don't seem to be avail.

I think the Santana rumors come from the fact that Minny will probably only break the bank for either Tori Hunter or Santana, but not both.

Smart money would be that they overpay Johan, but he may not take it at this point. Plus Hunter is almost Kirby Puckett popular in Minny so Johan is a possibility via trade. We would have to trade 4-5 blue chip prospects to even get a remote shot though.

Jose is right. Santana is a fa after next year. However, Johan was upset after they traded Castillo. He saw that, along with the fact that they didn't make any moves to improve, as an indication that the Twins weren't going in the right direction. The thing is, if they let Hunter walk, what chance do they then stand of signing him. If they sign Hunter to the long-term contract he's going to demand (and get), can they then afford to sign Santana?

Other than him, what other big name pitchers do you see the Mets going after?

santana **** hates the twins now. why the hell would he re-sign with a team that's going nowhere?
