Agreed. That team looks mad hard to score on and productive as hell. I just don't see how the deal to NOP goes down without Mitch going there.

Which would give them:

Mitch/Okafor
Zion/Randle
RJ/Knox
Dennis/Moore
Frank

which could be anything from better than the Fab5 to tumbleweedville, but an interesting follow whatever way.

If the Knicks try to get Jrue, Mitch will most likely be gone. NO will want more assets.

I slipped him in because Melo is the few players that can spot start at the 3 and 4 for veteran's minimum. I'm not sure if he wants to come back however we still would need a dynamic scorer off the bench. Trier is not my liking because he is so Melo. Why not just get the OG.

1) Draft RJ Barrett with #3 and buy 1-2 2nd round picks
2) Renounce all current FAs
3) Sign KD to max contract, sign another player to a ~5.5 mil contract (Lin or Rondo?)
4) Trade everything besides Dotson for Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday (Barrett, Mitch, Knox, DSJ, Frank Ntilikna, Trier, Mavs 2021, Mavs 2023 protected)
5) Sign DeAndre Jordan for 5 mil MLE (give him player option 2nd year so if he has a good season and wants to get paid next summer he can)
6) Fill out rest of roster with ring-chasing vet mins, 2nd rd picks and undrafted folks

No need at all to be sorry. I'm very much learning all this stuff myself as we go along this year - I never bothered about it at all (not sure why exactly) before. (And making a fair few mistakes as I go!)

Yes - it plays like this. You can trade anything for anything (more or less) if both sides are under the cap.

So .. in this instance you've waived LT, waived all of your UFAs, picked up your option on Trier, (if you know you've done the deal with the Pels you can safely pick up all the 1+1 guys) and let Dot become guaranteed on 14 July come what may. Sign KD.

Now you trade one of the future picks you are sending for AD. As the trade is into salary space this is fine.

Then you trade for Jrue, matching 80% of (Jrue's salary minus 100k), using, eg, pick_3 + Knox + Frank + DSJ.

Of course you agree the thing as one "deal" with the Pels, but officially it is two separate trades. That's absolutely fine by the NBA CBA - and not unusual for one "deal" to be literally two NBA-deals.

(You, as the Knicks, can trade for AD+Jrue as one official trade, but only if you start throwing other players - specifically Trier - in as well - because otherwise the deal would take you over the cap limit, and then you wouldn't be matching 80% of the combined salaries of AD and Jrue.)

I dont see the point to trade for Jrue Holiday

While we are under the Cap the transfer would be like a Free Agent signing. We would aborb Jrue 26M salary with Cap Space. Instead of use 32,7M in Irving/Kemba, we would use only 26,1M signing Jrue. The only difference is that transfer isnt FREE. We would to give New Orleans aditional assets because Jrues contract has value. I would rather keep the assets than make a 6,6M Cap Space economy.

Besides, in that scenario, we also would have to wait until august to trade for AD because we have to wait until the third pick count as salary for matching salaries reasons.

jrue would be a value third star in this case.

But 1 asset or 2 more expensive than Kemba/Irving. Every capped out team that needs guards would try to outbid us for Jrue.

For Jrue and AD, NO would ask for RJ, Frank, Dennis, Knox, Mitch, Dotson and more 2 or 3 picks.

Doesn't matter.

"The Kids" are a few years away from being able to win us a championship and KD is not coming here to just play with "The Kids." So, neither scenario is realistic.

Kyrie may go to the Nets and Kemba appears to be staying in Charlotte. I also won’t discount the possibility of Griffin hanging on to AD for a year.

Wonder if KD is still willing to come here to the Knicks without another max FA.
