The only player I'm picking at 3 is Barrett. If we want any other player, be that Culver or any of of the others, then we need to be getting back real value for the pick. I wouldn't be mad at falling back if it got us an unprotected pick in the future (these new draft odds explode the value on those but also them highly unlikely to get). But if the choice isn't Barrett (or Morant) then the Knicks need to have a deal lined up that reflects the consensus value difference here. Be cutthroat about this. Treat Barrett like a potential franchise changer because that's what you could be trading away.

This.

That is why I wouldn’t advocate trading down unless it gives us a chance to get James Wiseman or Anthony Edwards.

That's not what you draft at 3rd overall... especially not for this team.

this team needs high level role players.
This team needs a star. This team needs high end talent. The Knicks are one of the least talented teams in the NBA and one of the most offensively inept. Not statements, facts. They lack a franchise level potential talent and a true alpha personality. Dennis Smith Jr right now is their best offensive player and defacto no.1 option. Let's repeat that a few times. The Knicks are not at a point where they need to start worrying about role players. Championship teams worry about that. There's only a handful of teams in the NBA that are further away from a championship than the Knicks (the Cavs being one of them, and they clearly know why they need Barrett a whole lot more than role players).

try to get a future unprotected first, doesnt matter the year. it will be a strong trade asset because cavs will be bad for a long long time.
They reason they are infatuated with Barrett is because he's the only other potential impact player in this draft. The only other plyer outside of Zion and Morant to project as a no.1 alpha option.

Obtw...as both teams rosters are currently structured, the Cavs and the Knicks are both basically in the same boat with the same exact needs.

people projecting this from rj are precisely people you want to get value from. lamb to the slaughter.
? Lambs to slaughter? If the Knicks pick a guy who couldn't get his shot off against the best teams in college (Culver) with the 3rd overall pick (dear lord lol) or trade down and get role players they'd be the lambs and the other teams would be the slaughter house.

this team needs high level role players.

This team needs a star level prospect.

The role players will be easy to get once we find thee guy. The question is, who is thee guy in this draft class that’ll be available at 3.

if the team is drafting for trade assets sure but in this particular draft you are far better off developing a supporting cast and get superstars from fa

they need to trade down or out. but if they had to pick a player then pick someone who can increase the team wins. gotta think about the skillsets a kd team needs.

We don’t know if any star is going to sign with us. The draft takes place before free agency so we can’t draft a player because he theoretically fits well with players who haven’t signed yet. That’s a recipe for disaster. You take the guy with the highest upside regardless.

if you want the high upside move the pick for future assets in stronger drafts. rj is a huge trap to be an overpaid guy that dominates a bad offense. it’s the most toxic asset in basketball.

I think what draws me to RJ is that his body is going to fill out really well and since he's a tough rebounder you could see him playing some small ball 4 which would help alleviate some of the wiggle concerns because he'll be quicker than most NBA 4s. Sort of Kawhi-like in that regard. Before someone jumps down my throat for that comment I'm just specifically comparing the rebounding and toughness obviously Kawhi is the better player now and most likely will have a better career than RJ

The chart pretty starkly illustrates why the Harden comps should be off the table. Harden was always efficient.

RJ tracks pretty closely to the high volume scorers. Those guys were inefficient college and inefficient in the pros. At least his playmaking ability is better.

Chart also shows that Kawhi is pretty much a freak.

I didn't say RJ was necessarily the guy with the highest upside. He's definitely in the conversation though, and his playmaking skills make him different than your typical scoring wing, but I get why you're not sold on him.

Moving the #3 for a future pick without having any clue as to where this future pick will land with the new lottery odds is way too risky for me. The Knicks just need to do their homework on every prospect and pick the right player. Could be RJ, could be Culver, could be Garland, could be White or a guy who's not even projected to get picked in the top 10.

The 2013 draft was considered the worst since 2000 and yet it produced Giannis, McCollum, Oladipo and Gobert. I think we need to keep the pick and make the most informed decision possible.

Knicks have met with quite a few players early. At this stage, that's due diligence. The Knicks have to nail this pick. Whether that entails drafting a player, or trading it, the decision with this pick is immense.

Whatever they do, they cannot miss with this. really cannot afford to.

Imagine if the Knicks had all but announced their intentions to draft RJ on lotto night, talking heads saying the Knicks have no interest in meeting with other top projected players because they're so zeroed in on Barrett (or we couldn't get meetings with them) and we were offered two lotto picks from an unknown team but laughed them off the line....
.....would this not be the very definition of organizational ineptitude?
We've seen whet it looks like as Knick fans.
This ain't it.
Due diligence and smoke.
This is good stuff.

I think we are zeroed in on whomever falls to us between RJ and Ja and if we do make a trade we won't get beat in the head, if anything we'll do the beating. I trust Scotty P on this.

If he want to run away from Memphis, this is a risky strategy. He can scary Knicks and Lakers and be drafted by Cavs or Suns.

I think he got a promise from the Memphis that asked him to do the procedure ASAP.

He probably had the surgery now so he can play in Summer League, which I wouldn’t have recommended him to rush to get back on the court. The sooner he has the surgery the sooner he can get back on the court.

Of course we promised Ja and his agent that we are going to take him #2 and that is why he's having the scope done now. As far as trying to rush him back for summer league we don't give a damn about that. This guy is gonna be our starting PG for the next decade...we don't care about summer league....lol

I'm not opposed to a trade down for Culver, Hunter, or Garland (if the front office loves any one of those guys--ie I trust their judgment) and picking up a legit additional asset in the process.

Exactly. Maybe they should play the last 3 games of the tournament Culver played...ya know games that might actually how Culver would do against the better defenses and better defenders he'd face on a nightly basis in the NBA? You know where he shot 24% combined from the field and was basically getting embarrassed?

My guess this vid was created by a Cavs fan who realizes that Barrett us the guy they desperately need.
