What kind of close connection does B.Hurley have to Barrett to be able to know this much about him?

We also need to be vigilant about accumulating too many draft picks. Look at Ainge, he had sooo many and what?
Where did it get the Celtics? I'll tell you, no Finals and rookie contracts about to mature.

If you got lucky and have a #3, draft it or trade it for a star. Fk this trade down for more #s of ifs.

"He's been raised with a New York mentality. He's been playing basketball in New York since he was 4 years old. He fits in, he's a dog. He's (the kind of player) New York would say, 'Hey, this is what a New Yorker is,'" Washington told Begley in a phone interview.

Barrett's father played college basketball at St. John's.

Washington also cited Barrett's comfort with the spotlight and the media as another reason why he could potentially succeed with the Knicks.

"RJ can take criticism. He's been in the media his whole life. He answers tough questions. He knew the spotlight would be on him (throughout high school and college). And he wants New York! You've got guys running from New York. You've got guys that don't want that heat; they don't want the fire," added Washington.

Attitude is definitely a plus.
Understanding the Knicks culture is important as it's certainly unique throughout the league.

1 thing I'll say is that the Knicks may be apprehensive developing a non defensive star.its like acquiring a Carmelo but as a rookie, not 5-6 years down the line.

Imo acquiring offense is most important in a rebuild. Defense can come later once an offensive system has been established

For ex., Cavs big 3 were all offensive stars but the Cavs didn't build defense around them, at least when they did it was too late and for marginal players, hood, nance, hill.

The hope if you stay with the kids is that Mitch becomes the floor general on the defensive end, having a guy like that anchor your D and go a long way.

just my opinion. it’s that simple to me

a lot of his struggles had to do with the configuration of dukes team imo. i think he fits well into today’s NBA. strong work ethic . People are unnecessarily low on him

Late reply - but agreed. There's nobody else that should be under legitimate consideration to be taken at 3, independent of our "due diligence".

Knicks will still find a way to fumble on this third overall pick.

Duke's unsuccessful season this year, rests squarely on the "godly" shoulders of Coach K. He was clearly overwhelmed by his own talent this year and didn't develop a great team offense.
JR Barrett has that sought-after "IT" factor. Please don't sleep on him working harder than anyone else on the team to develop his game and becoming a star in a couple of years. From what I've read, his competitive nature is unmatched, evident by the performance against a heavily favorite USA AAU team.

As posted earlier, if you're lucky enough to have a #3 pick, draft it and develop it or else only trade it for a superstar. THAT"S IT!!!!

Ok after much though I’m all in on RJ. Actually think after a few years he’s gonna be the best player from this whole draft class. We may potentially have a young Kobe. A few years and practice everyday with guys like KD and Kyrie is gonna push this kid to one day try to be the best player in the league.

This kid is the goods. Really exciting the KP trade could turn into KD + Kyrie (or other max)and then we end up with Barrett or AD. That's a good return.

If we do (as we should) draft RJ & KD does come, you know KD will get RJ in the gym with Harden at some point.

Culver was also a sophmore. The pick is RJ Barret and its not even close. I do think Culver will be a good pro and i like him alot. But not at #3.

I would have this fear if it wasnt for Scott Perry. Scott Perry has been on point with just about everything he has done so far.

Exactly. Maybe they should play the last 3 games of the tournament Culver played...ya know games that might actually how Culver would do against the better defenses and better defenders he'd face on a nightly basis in the NBA? You know where he shot 24% combined from the field and was basically getting embarrassed?

My guess this vid was created by a Cavs fan who realizes that Barrett us the guy they desperately need.

For the record, I really like Culver but understand that his best outcome is as a top #2 option that can playmake a bit. Steve Smith has been my comp. I value that A LOT and also think his most likely outcome is very high but can easily acknowledge that Barrett's high water mark is higher.
