When I start thinking about this team without 2 max FA it's give perspective to the teams weaknesses.

Most namely no prospective
Pf even in FA. While Knox can fill pf minutes , he is a small ball 4 and it seemed like fiz preferred him at sf because he started kornet and Mitch in the FC.

A couple spots down you got a really good looking pf in Clarke. Has the defense , adv stats, and serviceable in scoring.

So here is a theoretical no FA lineup:

Mitch
Clarke (8
Reddish (10 or vice versa

Dsj
Knox

Can Knox be a sg? Can reddish be a sg? If reddish can be a point forward(ball-handling) he could open things up offensively.

Hunter at 8 would be an even nicer package. Hunter and Clarke would be about as good as rj for the Knicks particular circumstance if they aren't that high on rj.

Why would the Knicks trade a guy who looks like he has a clear path to becoming an all-star for 2 guys who don't have any skills that translate to stardom? 1 star player is infinitely greater than 2 role players.

What I'm saying is that their isn't a plan for a good pf unless your trading the pick.
Without 2 max FA , while barrett changes the complection of the franchise, it's not a particularly competive lineup next year.

Is a Barrett lineup more competive?

Just gonna say it, Knicks probably know they need d because they get everybody trying to get their career high playing at the garden. Which is why Mitch and Clarke is interesting. Clarke has a near 40 PER and over 30 point per 100 possessions on top of being an elite defender

Honestly the trade down stuff is out of left field for me anyways. There seemed to be a pretty good consensus the top 3 were a tier above the rest. Now there's some disconnect as to the value so it's just interesting to determine the options.

Catch and shoot guys cool and all but what the playoffs have shown is you need people to go get you a bucket or make a play. RJ is that guy.

The more I think about it the more I feel that the Grizzlies ultimately choose RJ over Ja.

RJ’s evasive tactics might make him even more desirable to the Grizzles.

Post-lottery Elliot Socks Perry actually mentioned RJ’s name first before Ja.

For a team that had the worst record and who has one of the least talented rosters that lacks above all else a true 1st offensive option... balance, depth and competitiveness is not as important as adding high end talent to build around.

Barrett is far and above more talented than the rest.

But that's not all he'd bring to this team. He would bring high super competitiveness, character, basketball IQ and leadership (4 aspects of who Barrett is that folks that know him keep bringing up above and beyond his talent on the basketball court). Honestly every time you hear people who have coached or known him they talk about things other than just his basketball skills. They talk about how great Barrett the person is. The talent is clear...but for people to keep focusing on those other things is rare air.

He's exactly the type of player both on and off the court that teams like the Knicks need. It's why the Cavs and the Hawks (both teams lacking talent and a long ways away from winning) are trying to trade up to get him. My guess is that if you checked in with every team in the lottery after the Knicks pick, they'd be more than interested in trading up to get Barrett if the Knicks don't want him.

The Knicks? There should only be 2 options. Draft Barrett if you're not trading for AD or draft Barrett if you are trading for AD. The notion that the Pelicans, who appear headed for a full rebuild would also rather depth than stockpiling high end talent is silly IMO... especially if Barrett and Zion reportedly (and these are things coming out of both horses mouths) are like brothers who did every together. After the Anthony Davis drama, figuring out a way right away to give your franchise player a reason to stay beyond his rookie contract should be high on your list of next actions. Getting Barrett and building around that friendship with other young talents would be what I'd want to do if I was David Griffin.

I think Ja got a promise by Memphis, which is why he decided to have a minor procedure imo

Don't overthink it Knicks fans. You guys need all the talent and value picks. Take RJ and run. Then continue to accumulate assets. Enough short sighted moves.

that is the ONLY explanation i could imagine for the timing of his procedure. he must have been told he's going #2. otherwise, you do it the day after the draft.

Couldn’t that same logic be applied to being promised going third?

good point. it could be applied to any draft promise, i suppose. but i would think a player with room to climb would hold off. he'd have something to prove to memphis in that case and an opportunity to prove it.

the combination of this and RJ's refusal lead me to assume (possibly incorrectly) that ja knows he's going #2.
