Any love out there for Tyreke Evans? I've always liked his game, and he could fit nicely next to Mitchell as a bigger ball handler, who can also create for himself. He's respectable from deep, as well. He's only 29 years old, so he could still have at least 3 good years left. Biggest issue is that you can pretty much pencil him in for 20ish games missed due to injury.

Lets say Tobias Harris agrees to come to Utah, would you then trade Gobert for Davis and in the process keep Favors. Leaving us with a starting line up of Mitchell-Ingles-Harris-Davis-Favors.

That's a tough one. It feels blasphemous to be talking about trading Gobert, a great player who has always given everything he has has and who has talked so positively about Utah and the Jazz. In some ways this would be like Masai trading for Kawhi, but there are important differences: 1. East was wide open after Lebron left. 2. DeRozan is a very good player; but he is not a franchise player to the same degree Rudy Gobert is a franchise player. 3. Toronto is a big international city --- the largest metropolitan area in Canada at 5 million plus, so Toronto might meet the needs of a player who is interested in playing on a big stage.
I would say no to the AD trade.
I would be tempted to trade Rudy Gobert for Paul George, who would be guaranteed to stay here for at least two seasons with a good possibility for a third season, and who has already turned down trying to work his way back to LA, but OKC would have no reason to make that trade.

If Gobert were on Derozen's level, I'd make that trade every time. But Gobert is better. And I think Davis is less likely to stay than Leonard is. We wouldn't go on a title run the first year with that lineup.
In '03-'04, Jerry Sloan coached the ESPN predicted "worst team of all time" to 42-40.

Re: Future Free Agent Thread
Just listened to Dunc'd on podcast. They had preview of the Utah's off-season. Their opinion on our options is bleak to put it mildly. They didn't even MENTION any big name FAs. They don't seem to think we even deserve to be mentioned for the likes of Kemba or Tobias or Russell...
They seem a bit out of touch and were floating possibilities of bringing Rubio back or getting a cheaper option like Collison or Beverley.

I'm guessing they recorded the off-season part before the Rubio story came out...but still out of touch considering that we've all kinda known that Rubio won't be back since locker room clean out.
I don't think their perception of UTA as a FA destination is out of touch though. That's just reality. The only player we had betting odds for is Tobias Harris...and we were 6th on the list. Has any FA ever met with 6 teams?

Yah... pretty bleak as I said... the out of touch thing was directed at their Rubio comments. The other part is just sad, wouldn't say out of touc.
I think we are doomed. I have no idea what we can do to take the next step. Maybe the best we can do is stay about the same and improve on the margins through getting better fitting pieces around Gobert and Mitchell...
The other chance we have is we strike gold in the draft somehow... again.

Our current success is because we struck gold twice...but does that make you feel better about striking gold for a third time, or has our luck run out? Not only did we get lucky in making the right pick, but in both cases we got extremely lucky in acquiring the pick in the first place.
Bare minimum, get some better fitting pieces around Mitchell and Gobert. It will at least make those two look better, and we wouldn't be sabotaging anyone's trade value.

Seems accurate. We aren't a FA destination, never will be, not even for 3rd tier stars, so us not being in play for any of those guys is par for the course.
Unfortunately there isn't much of a way to improve. FA are out. That leaves trade: which we don't have anything that valuable or worthwhile, and that can't be easily beat by other teams. There is also the draft, but we are too good to get anything other than a role player.
Even if we trade one of our best guys (Gobert or Mitchell) we won't get fair value back and it will basically keep us in the same place we are now.
Those injury plagued years to Hood, Burks, Exum, and Favors really tanked our assets and gave us a bunch of injury plagued players with rock bottom value. If they had stayed healthy (especially Favors before the need to have a center that shoots a 3 really became a thing) the team would have had tradeable pieces to get something done. Now it's Royce and Ingles and nothing else.

I don't particularly believe in 'being due' or 'luck running out'. But I also don't think we can just snap our fingers and get a great player whenever we want... otherwise we wouldn't have had to wait for 5 years between Mitchell and Gobert. I do believe that whenever DL and this FO makes an aggressive move in the draft they feel pretty confident about what they are getting. This is not to say every move will work out(Treyd), but if we make an aggressive move I will be more excited than if I were fan of other teams trading up.

If we ended up not being able to sign anyone significant, I wouldn't mind doing something like 23 for Batum+12 if we like someone. Batum would fit our style pretty well, as we'd always have a playmaking 3 in the game. He's obviously overpaid, but next year's free agency class is nothing special.

Yeah, I like that option... if we like someone. Batum is not worth his contract, but he's probably better than anyone else we can reasonably get in FA. And if it gets us a lottery pick, it might be worth it.

That would make Charlotte feel a little better about signing Kemba to a Super Max also.

Re: Future Free Agent Thread
All the more reason we should have traded for Conley. If we can't attract b or c list free agents, why are we turning down trades like that one?

Re: Future Free Agent Thread
If we’re taking Batum I want way more than a pick swap. Feel like his contract is two firsts to dump minimum.
