Furthermore, the nonchalent notions of trading our TJs when we don’t have to is lunacy. They are our 3 and 4th best players. Can’t keep losing the dudes that know how to play. Keep both these gym rats. Stretching TJo is silly when we could extend him for a few more net mil per year. I’ll take him, his max work ethic and locker room chops for another 4. He’s a baller and we need ballers

Sadly I don't think there is any chance of TJo declining his option. I wouldn't him on a cheaper deal, for a couple seasons, but I just don't see him turning down all that guaranteed money to stay on the Suns.

Perhaps... but project his next deal... 2 yrs at 9? 3 at 8? That’s ball park for for a 4 yr / 11 per today. Gains 8+mil in cap this off season... and he is set with no worries. Sure, he’d have to want to be here, and the FO would have to have another deal lined up... but it is possible. You stretch him we gain 12 this yr but are in the hook with 6.5 each of the next two... and are minus a TJo. For an extra 4.5, you keep him. This is bird in the hand for both.

I am sure plenty of rumors and reports will be heating up as the draft gets closer. For the sake of the fan base please trade this 6th pick for a veteren PG....James Jones needs to come up with a plan and land a good pg to run this team..Rolling the dice and keeping the 6th pick will do absolutely nothing for us in the win column and we will be at the bottom of the league again for how many years straight now? I am not saying that we will be in the playoffs if we end up with a solid PG(vet) but i will be more content and have somewhat more confidence in the upcoming season if we did trade the pick. Hoping that guys like ayton/bridges/booker get even better this up coming season..having a pg running this offense should help a ton...

We do not have any workout with the "big names" yet, we probably are trying to avoid that process if we are close to trading the pick.

Some trades are done before the draft, that would give an advantage to the team getting the pick preparing themselves better for the draft.

With that team coming back. The East being the East - he should do a 1+1 as truly that team could be even better next year with Gasol all year, two guys like Siakam and Anunoby getting better. They will have an exception for a two guard or they bring back Danny Greene. Team will be good

Maybe, maybe not. Gasol has always been overrated n is old n fading fast. Same with lowry- n he's a playoff bum. Only hope is siakam gets significantly better, which I doubt, because any improvement of significance came this year. You may see better numbers, but that'll probably be because of lowry, gasol n ibakas continued decline.

They'll be fine, but unless they sign a major player, this is their best shot, especially with a crippled warriors team.

I would love a #6 and minor filler for SpencerD and #17. But I am not sure about trying to get under the cap though. I think we continue to operate over the cap to keep all of our exemptions. A standard MLE of $9.2 mil might be better than the actual cap we could create.

And we are not trading TJW unless we are getting a star in return. Even if he returns to the bench, we need his scoring and shooting. Hopefully both he and Oubre are hitting the gym as much as possible, getting stronger. I hope both are working on their defense and rebounding. Bring back Holmes and Bender, and we could have a solid starting unit and bench unit.

I know one thing, if the Suns stretch Tyler Johnson - it better be for like Kevin Durant or a really good player because Tyler brings a lot to the team and to me, stretching would be WASTING cap space. I just don't know what the right figure he would accept. Like you state - would he accept an extra 27/3 so that means 46/4 - Suns would net some cap space but lock up the future space at around 11.5 per year or so. Interesting call - but if Nevel is right, he is traded.

Well most teams would expect a star or at least a player that could be a star in return for a star. While Warren is a good scorer the rest of his game isnt even close to be a star player. He is a good 6th man prospect but he is also the best trade piece that this team has. Even clearing his salary off the books likely would help us more than having him on the roster to be used to sign a real point guard or good power forward prospect. Personally I would be shocked if he is on the team next year, everything is looking like he is going to be heading out the door and likely he has asked for it.
Just say no to idiots!!

Yup Bobby, stretching TJo would also be a waste of another 20 mil adding to the mountain of cash Sarver pays/paid for someone not to be here.

I’m not that familiar with the MLEs and actual breakdown of our cap scene... 9.5 mill ? Seems like it was 6 not too long ago. These payday tickets are ballooning fast. Got to be careful.
Take Holmes for instance... would be no surprise if someone dangled 8-10 to him. And that’s a ‘see us good luck’

It makes sense if you consider Rubio just came off a terrible season and has shown all he has to offer and likely declining as a player. If you are in the camp that Ball can make significant improvements (I am) then Ball is easily more valuable than Rubio.

Per-36:

Rubio: 16/8/5/1.7stls 40-31-86 14 PER .520TS

Lonzo: 12/7/6/1.7stls 40-33-42 11.7 PER .487TS

So neither can shoot but Lonzo has a worse shot selection hoisting up five 3’s a game with that sideways shot put. As seen with his FT’s that thing is toast unless he completely rebuilds his form. Plus Rubio has worked with two young star centers and would fit better with Ayton. Considering one is just cap space and the other costs a top-10 pick there’s no reason to trade it. We could sign Rubio on a two year deal and still draft a PG.

There we go. Much smarter approach. We have Tyler Johnson, a capable PG whom we barely got to see play last season. PLENTY of solid PGs available in free agency at a reasonable price. The list of PG trade targets if we're talking the #6 is abysmally short (Dinwiddie, White...?). Just grab a free agent with a solid contract and the promise of a prominent role.

I'm going to trust that we're going to do the smart thing here and either draft Clarke or trade down, not out.

Question about trading our pick.

If we were to trade it on draft night(after we draft the prospect) does the pick have salary that can be added to the total outgoing to make things match? Or does the other team get rights and the salary/cap hold wont count until new CBA year?

We have to sign him first and wait a month to be able to use his cap space in a trade. Otherwise we are trading his draft rights.

I don't believe this of whats really happening inside the building. Maybe its just semantics and the Suns aren;'t "shopping the pick but would listen. I think this is somebody floating something to Gambo so he shares it. Hell Ainge might have told him since Danny has used Gambo before.

My thought is this: when you are 19-63, the years without playoffs - EVERY option should be open for discussion. Now does that mean, 6 for Ball - I can respect that. But to say the 6th pick would not be open for business - I don't believe.

FYI per Coon's CBA FAQ, TJo's contract can not be extended nor can it be renegotiated to a lower salary. Our options are 1) keep him, 2) trade him, or 3) stretch him. I prefer the first option unless we are getting a star PG in return.

Yeah not believable to me. Everything James Jones has been saying, it would be silly to limit ourselves to just building through the draft.
We should even be looking to swap future picks if necessary.

This time of year take everything you hear with a grain of salt. Both teams and agents leak things for leverage. Tons of misinformation out there. The vast majority of trades come out of no where with no prior rumors.

It seems that a lot of yall would trade #6 straight up for Spencer Dinwiddie. This is the second year in his career he has shot over 40%, he is not a good defender, not a rebounder, and a below average passer for a point guard. He is a good backup or a crappy starter and ya want to trade the 6th pick for him? What?

Also, what is this obsession with Brandon Clarke. Personally, I think he is someone to steer clear of. I would do one of three things, draft DeAndre Hunter is he is somehow still available (no brainer) and trade Warren and JJ for a PG, trade the 6th pick for Jure holiday if possible, or just draft one of Garland or White if it comes down to that.

Ideal senario to me would be (somehow) drafting Hunter, drafting Cameron Johnson or another backup big or just trading the Bucks pick for a backup big, then signing Darren Collision in FA. We can also trade one of TJ or JJ then by themselves or with the bucks pick for a sixth man.

What do yall think about what I have said?
Dinwiddie's raw fg% is a bit deceiving because he shoots a lot of 3s and he does a decent job getting to the line where he shoots 80%. True shooting % (TS) is a better gauge and that was 58% on pretty high usage which is basically identical to Booker's TS%.

Read on Twitter

Defensively he's nothing special but big enough to switch (he has a higher standing reach than Clarke).

I wouldn't trade 6 straight up but I would do a pick swap assuming a better trade isn't on the table. Partly because I just don't see a huge difference in 6 or 17 in this draft. And I really like the PFs that are projected in that range. Plus that would allow them to focus the FA money on a vet PF, they really don't have the cash to sign two starters.

Dinwiddie's far from some home run aquisition but he'd be a big upgrade.

There were times early in the season where the nets coaching staff was choosing him to close games over everyone's favorite max FA target Russell.

If I knew we could get Grant Williams (or Brandon Clarke) at 17 I'd do it for sure. Maybe for PJ Washington. But if those guys are all gone I wouldn't want the choices. Might almost want to go for that backup C like Goga or maybe even Kabengele but I am not sure it makes a ton of sense to get a backup C.

I wouldn't want to end up with Rui or something...just looking at Ringer's mock his player comps scare me a bit..even though they are decent players...
