Nah, you have to remember Shaq was a lean explosive kid in junior HS. He moved like a guard for a kid that was almost 7 feet, he did not start bulking until he reached college as he was about 250 lbs or so in HS. This kid looks like an overgrown Offensive lineman that matured really early, he is slow for his size and he can barely get up. He needs conditioning, if ever wants to make it to the NBA level.

That's high school Shaq, this kids body is going to develop more. He's in 8th grade.

Sure, but the still doesn't give any precedence to saying "next Shaq?". Shaq was an athletic freak, this kid isn't. Shaq was not as tall at 14, but he was a much better, massively superior athlete. Weight is part of why his athleticism is lacking, sure, but we don't know what kind of level of athletic ability he can have in general. Just losing weight or developing isn't automatically going to make him go from what he is to being an athletic freak. Being tall and heavy =/= on the path to being Shaq.

I have no issue with highlighting how large he is, just that jumping to asking next Shaq is unreasonable.

Also here's younger Zion for example :
;t=128s

You don't generally go from unathletic plodder at 14 to athletic freak by 15 or 16.

I'm impressed af. People are way too critical of 14 yos.

One thing I'm not loving though is some earbuds in during the pregame layup line. Is that a thing these days? Isn't that when you're getting around the team?

I added 30kgs (keep in mind I'm quite tall) and got more athletic when I was 16. It's different for everyone dependent on puberty onset etc. So just cause Zion was near damn athletic prime at 14 doesn't mean others are going to be lol

Show us well known 7 footers at 14, then we can assess.

The biggest thing for a 7 footer is coordination, and this kid has it.

My estimation is that he's going to have size/weight issues as he gets older. Also Shaq wasn't good because he was big and fat.

You're arguing against a strawman. I got more athletic basically every year from 13 till is was 18, but I was always one of the top athletes among my peers and at 11 and 12 was already rivaling the 13 and 14 year olds who would have already hit their testosterone spike. Zion also wasn't at his peak at 14, he got more athletic from then, both bigger, stronger and more explosive. I didn't say people can't get more athletic. I said it's unlikely that you go from a plodding slow person to an athletic freak in a year or two.

Of course the strawman of people peak at 14 is wrong, but that's not what I said. If you are trying to argue that you went from a slow plodding person to the most athletic person in your age group, that's different.

Probably an old pic, he was measured 7 foot recently.

looks pretty recent, like within the last 6 months recent

and Zion was just measured at the combine he's 6-6.

Ya I'm pretty sure LeBron's kid's team went to Duke in August.

Zion didn't get measured at the combine, he didn't go.

u right he didn't brain fart

but Zion isn't 6-8...Cam in in at 6-8 and Zion is clearly shorter

You have footage of unhappy Curry at 13 years old?

Again, you aren't getting it. I'm not saying he can't get more mobile or more athletic or anything of the like. I'm saying that it is unprecedented to just jump to "next Shaq?" when that would require the kid to become a freak athlete and one of the most athletic kids his age in the next 2 years or so. If it happens, cool, but just seeing tall and large and asking if the person can be the next Shaq is ridiculous.

Kid's attitude could be the main problem. He says that he doesn't like being compared to Shaq because he can shoot and shaq couldn't. Show some humility.

This reminds me of the Thon Maker in high school hype. OMG 16 AND 7 FOOT AND HE CAN MAKE JUMPSHOTS HE IS THE NEXT DURANT!.

Embarrassing to compare him to Shaq at this point. He is much much much much more likely to be the next Eddie Curry. Let him play a game in college first before we compare him to top 3 centers. It's not far fetched to say he will make the league one day lets watch his progress. But he will probably not be close to Shaq no no no.
