It really depends on each team's timing and plans. If we happen to get max free agent(s), it would make a lot of sense to put all eggs into an All-NBA type of player, even if it costs a lot of the future pieces. If we get none, I wouldn't give Shai either.

Shai is much more than just some mid round rookie, and AD has never been a real threat for MVP, and as things are looking, might not ever be. I remember a few years ago I raised the idea of trading Blake Griffin for Antetokounmpo, and not many people thought Giannis alone would be enough. Young guy picked at the end of the lottery with all the potential in the world vs perennial all-NBA guy. Tell me how it looks today. Obviously Shai is not likely to end up with Giannis type of impact (and neither was Giannis at the time), but he will be a star, few people doubt that anymore.

Of course the Pelicans might get better offers elsewhere anyway, so not including Shai is probably a deal breaker, but when you think long and hard about it, it's not as obvious as most people would think from the Clippers perspective.

Those 2 deals are not very comparable.

The Clips would give an expiring deal (Gallo), a bench player (Trezz) and 2 future picks?
The Lakers would give Kuzma, #4 this season, Ingram and Ball?
My eyes glaze over when reading alternative stat (not advanced stat) narratives that go many paragraphs long. If you can not make your point in 2 paragraphs it may not be a great point. :D

Ideally its Durant. Leagues best scorer. Can share the offensive load with Kawhi. Can mix & match different wing matchups. Can both play stretch 4. But he's likely going to New York with Kyrie.

Next is Giannis. Leagues best athlete. Arguably leagues best defender. Gets to the rim at will.

Next is Davis. Leagues best big. Arguably leagues best defender. Can score inside & outside at will. Although I wouldn't touch Davis with his ties to Lebron and the Lakers.

AD's Big-3 Options

Post#67 » by Ranma » Sun May 26, 2019 11:27 am

Read on Twitter

Paolo Uggetti, TheRinger.com (5/22/19)
Clippers: Davis, Kawhi Leonard, Player X (Either another free agent or a current Clipper)

For the rest of the league, this may be the scariest of all the options. I have no idea whether there’s any connection between Davis and Kawhi, but here’s what I do know: It would be a living hell to play against both of them. Think of the point guards who will try to square up against Kawhi on the perimeter, only to be met by Davis at the rim. That’s nightmare fuel. Kawhi has been linked to the Clippers all season, but given the incredible playoff run he’s still on with Toronto, his deciding to stay there shouldn’t be ruled out. Yet should he end up on the Clippers, like many expect, it would make a lot of sense for the team to also try to add Davis. Their package would have a nice mix of young players and veterans, plus a valuable 2021 Heat pick, which could be enough to get a deal done.

As the Warriors have demonstrated, sometimes it’s not about the overwhelming talent of the Big Three, but more about the fit. But if there’s any chance of pairing Kawhi and Davis together, you do it and worry about fit later. Who cares who the third player is?

Is Anthony Davis’s Best Chance at a Big Three in New Orleans, or Somewhere Else?

Nightmare on Clip Street: The Klaw and the Brow

Post#68 » by Ranma » Wed May 29, 2019 6:15 pm

Reminder: Defense wins championships...and Ryan Hollins is an idiot, which says something when he's at the same table as Damon Jones and Max Kellerman. How much longer will LeBron still play at an elite level compared to Kawhi right now? Yes, neither AD or KL are point guards but Davis grew up playing the point before his growth spurt and Leonard was not a good shooter coming out of college and yet he developed that part of his game in short order, so you think maybe he might be able to incorporate an improved passing game if it helps the team win?

Let's also not forget leadership. While Kawhi is leading his team by example with his professionalism and inspiring them to advance to new postseason heights, the so-called King is engaging in Game of Thrones backstabbing and manipulations trying to exile his teammates to other destinations even as he signed with the Lakers for a transition period into retirement and movie-making in Los Angeles.

I'd love to pry Aaron Gordon away from the Magic, and I don't think the price would be all that steep.

LOLOL

TBF i was a bit more generous in willing to toss in SEGA, but hey if that dude thinks the Clips can come steal AD for just that package. More power to him.

Hmmm... might still be enough cap space to sign 2 30% max players....

Aftermath of Durant Injury

Post#74 » by Ranma » Wed Jun 12, 2019 5:57 am

I'm curious how those who've voted for Durant in the poll feel now. Stick with him or go with an alternative? Luckily, people can change their votes. This is why I enabled the option to change your vote and have been taking screenshots every month.

Surprised the Clippers aren't getting in heavily on the AD talks.

Yeah he may leave after the 2019-20 teams to go for the Lakers but is he really going to go to play with a 35 year old Lebron who will turn 36 in Dec 2020?

If the Lakers are offering Ingram, with an uncertain future, Lonzo, ditto and the #4 pick or whatever vet the #4 pick could fetch, that seems like not much of a package to beat.

I think it's a pretty good package
probably can get Josh Hart thrown in
