OP obviously never saw Shaq play. He was a 7-foot ballerina, footwork so smooth and fast, with explosiveness and stamina. Maybe this kid could sit behind a desk and analyse a game like Shaq, but no way he ever plays like him being that slow, it takes more than being tall and obese to make it in the league.

Also - if he is 7 foot, every other 14-year-old on the court must be 6'4, which seems unlikely. He looks like a slow overweight 6'6 14 year old. I hope he has someone that can get him healthy before it's too late.

If he was smart, he would play football too. Already looks like a really good OT prospect.

I remember when kids played baseball, football, and basketball. If you played only one sport then something was wrong with you. These days its the opposite smh.

I'm saying that it is unprecedented to just jump to "next Shaq?" when that would require the kid to become a freak athlete and one of the most athletic kids his age in the next 2 years or so. If it happens, cool, but just seeing tall and large and asking if the person can be the next Shaq is ridiculous.

Give me a list of future NBA superstars who were top of their class in athleticism at 14.

This guy is 7 feet tall, show me the other 14 year old 7 footers in his class.

He like most males will experience the most physical change in his life over the next 3-4 years, we have no idea where his development will go.

Shutting the door on what he can be is short-sighted.

His height and coordination alone make him an anomaly, you can't apply the same rules to him as other people.

Lol, just keep going with it, won't you? Many of the athletic ones were probably at the top of their class on athleticism by 14 as kids will start to differentiate more in athletic ability around that age (usually starting at 13, the boys start to get the boost). We're not talking about 10-12 year olds here, at that age, the girls are many times still as athletic as the boys, but by 13 and 14 it's totally different. We're comparing them to other 14 year olds. Look at someone like the Mikey Williams kid, you can already see the difference in athleticism compared to his peers, or Shareef O'Neal when he was that age, or someone like Cassius Stanley in 7th and 8th grade.

Look at Udoka Azubuike at 14 years old, not talking about skill or coordination for him, but athleticism and mobility:

13-14 years old is right about when many young boys start to show their athletic potential, it's not the same as being 10 or 11. Yes, we have no idea where he'll go, but doesn't mean we should jump to asking if he'll be Shaq. How about we wait till we actually see anything close to signifying someone like Shaq before we start even getting anywhere close to implying that. That's what I'm trying to say. You can't just see big and tall 14 year old and start asking if they'll be the next Shaq.

First of all...those are like 8 foot rims.

Second, what was someone like Anthony Davis doing at this age? He was 6 foot point guard. Saying people can't be completely physically different at 18 vs say 14, especially when they are that tall and still growing into their bodies is absurd..

playing only basketball is about being smart. he can get paid just for being a 7 footer and retire at 19, which he looks like he will have to anyway if he keeps playing at that weight

It’s complete nonsense

In Australia, it’s called a “pathway program” and it’s doing real damage to the sporting landscape as coaches are basically blackmailing parents into having kids commit to 1 sport from a relatively young age

Problem is that their first option may not be the best for them but by the time they work it out, it’s too late as they’re not in the “system”

This is a lot closer to Eddy Curry than Shaq.
Shaq was a floor running athletic specimen

Not to be a downer, but Karnowski was also unstoppable playing 8th. graders. I expected freak athlete when I saw Shaq comparison.

Nothing like Shaq. Closer to Bhullar to be honest. Shaq was GOAT level athlete, this guy is slow, fat and doesn't show any explosiveness.

This kid is more like Big Baby than Shaq. Some thought Big Baby would be the next Shaq too.

Curry was beast offensively. His initial weakness was rebounding, but later he just gave up giving a damn all together. Didnt enjoy the game, just played to get that contract.

You realize that none of what you are saying is supporting the argument you are trying to make, right? So what about Davis? He was a lanky athletic 6'3-ish guy who had a growth spurt and became a taller, lanky and athletic guy. He wasn't an unathletic slow PG who had a growth spurt and suddenly became an athletic, mobile 6'10 guy.

So who is saying that this kid can't change his physical profile? What is being said is don't get anywhere near projecting that he will change his profile to a guy who is at a far different level athletically. There's a difference between changing physical profile and becoming a freak athlete at the level of someone like Shaq, this isn't anything difficult to grasp. You don't have to die upon the hill of your thread title. Just because the YouTube video said next Shaq to get clicks and because people who are ignorant to what young Shaq actually was like say that doesn't mean you must also follow.

That was the first comparison I thought of too. This kid will be lucky to be in the NBA. He is that huge at 8th grade? He needs to control his weight if he wants any chance of making it in the league.

Przemek Karnowski is the first comp I thought of. They're even both lefty.

But the kid has a long way to go to raise his beard game to Karnowski's level.
Just because it happened to you, doesn't make it interesting.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

Yesterday I was lying; today I'm telling the truth.

Dude had great handles, good mid range game as well. People who said he couldnt survive in todays game are out of their minds not realising he changed his game to suit the way he needed to play to match those rigid C's. He could shoot and move incredibly well before he packed on the weight to be that dominant inside presence. Would of killed it in todays game

This kid has better shooting touch than Shaq but that's about it as of right now, anything else is not comparable.

I'm rooting for him though he's only 14 and has a good personality. He is playing at the highest level of HS competition so hopefully he gets whipped into competitive shape before he hits college.
