Drummond’s trade value

Post#1 » by kpt » Wed Jun 5, 2019 1:16 pm

This is a huge mystery. Some on this board think he has huge trade value and other little to none. What do you feel Drummond brings back in a trade?

Bad contract with a weak asset for the right team. Drummond just make a lot of money to not be able to even be a offensive option.

I don’t think this a mystery at all. Drummond’s real trade value is neither what we the members of RealGM think it is, nor even what the Pistons think it is. It’s what other teams are willing to offer. And since no other team has been knocking on the Pistons’ door trying to get Drummond it’s pretty clear what his trade value is.

Yeah, because 17 and 15 centers grow on trees. If only he was our offensive leader. Drummond, IMO, is one of the least disposable players on the team.

if drummond's contract wasn't as much he'd have alot more value obviously theres probably teams that would be interested in drummond but we'd ask too much back for him.

If he could provide more offensive versatility and be a more force on that end, he'd be easily worth the 25+ we give him each year.

Otherwise, no, he doesn't have much value. Not a lot of centers deserve max money nowadays anyways, it's getting way top heavy in terms of production to value ratio. You have the Embiids, Jokics, KAT, Davis' (if you count him as a center), and then everyone else.

I mean, I don't really care about this sort of thing, and have no ambitions of being a mod, but come on. A thread with the exact same title is on this same page just a little further down.

If no one will trade for a player, that player has no trade value. No one is disputing that he doesn’t have value as a player. But what you can get for him in a trade is not always equivalent.

When your team stinks, everyone is disposable. Forget the stats. It's not working. When you're the "best" or "lead" player on your team for 6 of 7 years, and the team has 0 playoff wins to show for it, you are disposable. Go be valuable for another team. You haven't been valuable for this team.

pretty much. you can point to his numbers all you want, but at the end of the day, he hasn’t accomplished anything noteworthy here.

Note: Drummond holds the All-Time NBA record with four consecutive seasons with 1000 points + 1000 rebounds + 100 blocks + 100 steals (since steals/blocks were first recorded in 1973)

Drummond gets paid to be a number one guy and he clearly isn't. He has some value, but he's not doing enough for Detroit to justify his salary.
That doesn't mean you just dump him for nothing, but I think that cap space could be used in much better ways.
Hopefully he works on his post game/offense and we can hang onto him, but I can't see that happening after all this time.

Ummm can we please stop using the term "value" to describe NBA players? It's incredibly racist and insensitive.

Sorry, I was just channeling my inner Draymond Green.

Impressive but what’s the overall win total over that span?

The biggest problem with Drummond is the organization’s perception of him. He’s paid and treated like a franchise player when in reality he’s nothing more than a good role player that puts up impressive rebounding numbers - that doesn’t justify franchise player treatment.

As long as he continues to be overvalued by the pistons he will have no value around the league.

Drummond would have more value if he wasn't earning $25m a year which is at the very upper range.

The key element is VALUE ie output/$$$$ paid

If he was paid between $10-$15m a year he would be worth a lot more as a trade piece.
