I wonder how long before the supposed preliminary offer we make is leaked... although, if I was Griff I'd leak something above and beyond reality for the sake of NY/Bos

Grab AD, and it would be a virtual landslide attraction for Agents

Draft promise? Why would the owner of a pick, put themselves in a corner, and restrain themselves to an individual? What if NYK picked Garland? What if decides to join the army? No team should make draft promises, it limits and constrains you. Team should just do their homework, and be ready for 3 or 4 guys.

Makes no sense for the Lakers to promise, how do they benefit?
and makes no sense for Garland to settle for a promise at #6. What a bunch of hogwash.

I agree with you. Seems very amateurish to make a promise that early.

Promises make sense when you’re lower in the draft and you’re trying to steal someone by having him be an unknown to teams in front if you by having him not workout, hoping he drops. Otherwise doesn’t make sense.

Might not be about the Lakers benefiting. Could be about LeBron and Klutch using their pull with the Lakers to get a client into a situation he wants to be in, either in LA or playing next to Zion in New Orleans.
It's not like Garland would be an outlandish pick at 4.
And I'm sure the promise was predicated... "IF we make the pick, we got you. If we trade... Well..."

Alright so the promise thing might be real to keep the Knicks from realizing that RJ might not be the right pick at 3.

Pretty much. Having a top 5 (or whatever pick) doesn't really have much benefit to making promises. The only ones who really gain by making promises when you have a guy you want to slip.

I’m falling in love with Garland the more I learn about him.

Daydreaming...had the #1 pick fell in our laps. How would we use it? Ship it to NO in an exchange for AD or draft Zion? Perhaps that’s a debate being worked out in some other alternate universe.

I was super hesitant on Garland at first, but the way this guy shoots...I've been waiting so long for this team to get a sharp shooter. This guy might be the pick.
I kinda get a Damian Lillard type vibe from this guy.

The gap between the college game the pros has never been larger IMHO. It's hard to translate much of anything anymore.
