Re: Draft Thread 2: The Electric Draftaloo
RJ is going to be a stud. I have seen this guy play in person many times he has that 2nd gear that a lot of ballers don't. If the knicks pass on him it will be a mistake.

Kind of looks like KPs build when he came out.

I definitely won’t be surprised if RJ wins Rookie of the Year.

Zion is nuts. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it came out that he was actually 27.

Re: Draft Thread 2: The Electric Draftaloo
Harden was pretty efficient as a freshman. His percentages dropped for some reason as a sophomore.
17.8 PPG 5.3 RPG 3.2 APG 2.1 SPG 0.6 BPG
53% on 10.9 FGA / 41% on 3.2 3PTA / 75% on 6.6 FTA / 59% EFG / 63% TS
RJ
22.6 PPG 7.6 RPG 4.3 APG 0.9 SPG 0.4 BPG
45% on 18.5 FGA / 31% on 6.2 3PTA / 67% on 5.9 FTA / 51% EFG / 53% TS
Gotta look up some videos / numbers for context, but one thing that sticks out off the bat is the lack of shooting for Duke. It probably forced RJ into having to attempt some more 3's than he normally would have.
Any ASU fans got some insight into Harden's tenure?

Re: Draft Thread 2: The Electric Draftaloo
Please not another guy who cant shoot. Every single year this board falls in love with guys who cant shoot. And every year I hear how shooting is the easiest fix in the NBA, yet Shump, Frank, Mudiay, Knox, all werent great jump shooters, and none really improved. Just say No. We need scorers. If you cant do it in middle schoool, high school, college, its probably not going to happen.

Not only was Culver a worse scorer than RJ last season, he was worse from 3. Culver shot 25% from 3 in 2019. If your argument hinges on the two way aspect, fine, but bringing up scoring and shooting as a differentiator is strange.

If the Knicks end up trading for the Cavs 26th pick i’d definitely would draft Bazley there. I think he was pretty highly rated coming out of high school and we struck gold with Mitch. Why not try that again?
How about drafting Nazeon Reid?

Re: Draft Thread 2: The Electric Draftaloo
One thing about RJ no one mentions is that he rebuilt his Jump shot the summer before his freshmen year at Duke. This was just year 1 using it. I wouldnt be surprised if he improves further after getting more reps along his career.

am I reading these wrong ?
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/stats/_/id/4395625/rj-barrett
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/stats/_/id/4277928/jarrett-culver
Both shot 30% from 3 and Culver shot 46% for the season while RJ shot 45%
Very similar it seems and forgive me if im not reading that right, but I watched a lot of Zion this season, and do not feel comfortable with RJ. One scout said it best.
"I see a general lack of creativity in his game. I don't see the ability to pound and elevate and create much of anything from the midrange," notes Oringher. "I don't see much iso ability besides a simple straight left-hand drive. … It's going to be very difficult for him to be an elite scorer while lacking these attributes."
"There's a concern about his ability to go both directions off the dribble and there wasn't one thing that jumped out about his game at Duke where you said, 'This is an elite skill that will stand out at the next level.' That's worrisome," a scout said.
SHOT SELECTION
"There is a nasty flip side here too (to his competitive nature). That "will to win" can lead to forcing shots, distrust of team/system, etc.," one talent evaluator says. "Too many times this year it appeared as if he didn't trust his teammates/system and forced shots that he had no business taking. (this is what drove me nuts)
Adds another scout: "Maybe his shot selection will be different at this level but it gave you pause when you watched him this season. The discipline may come, but it's far from a certainty and would leave me a bit concerned if I took him."
There's something about an underdog that really inspires the unexceptional.
