Re: Free agency and trade ideas: Which wings do we go after this summer?
So you want to give up a higher draft pick, a second first rounder, AND TJ Warren (the team's best three-point shooter and one of the most consistent non-flashy offensive players in the league) for a player that consistently airballs FTs and has been nothing but disappointing as a second overall pick a couple drafts back... MEH. Bucks pick and a second or two is all I'd give for Ball. Also, Warren's contract isn't an albatross. It's super good for the production he gives. Why do people obsess on getting rid of Warren in any deal possible? You're almost assuredly not getting back a player as good as him.

If you think Ball is worth a lottery pick or TJ Warren why are you selling JJ for so low? 6 pick bucks pick and warren for ball and another bad player who ends up being at 9. What a waste of assets. Tj Warren would be the 2nd pick in this draft

Also why would you give up the 2nd best pick in the draft and the 2nd best player in the trade to get the 3 or 4th best player in the trade and move backwards in the draft. It makes no sense. These are Ryan McDonough moves

I understand that people used to say the same thing about Josh Jackson as well but Hunter can shoot and has proven to be a winner. How much does the lack of blocks and steals have to do with Hunter not gambling and taking unnecessary risks often defensively?
The next Kawhi is a stretch. I like Hunter too
It is not uncommon to see that comparison...Watching De’Andre Hunter, it’s hard to not see Kawhi Leonard in the way he plays. Both are elite defenders and don’t have any glaring flaws in their game. Leonard and Hunter were exactly the same height and weight coming out of school, which makes them the identical body type. Obviously, Kawhi is a tremendous All-NBA talent capable of carrying a team to the Finals.
Hunter may not be that guy; he isn’t as talented as Leonard. Leonard has much better handles and is a significantly more refined scorer, but their calm approach to the game and quiet, unrelenting intensity are very similar.
Yes I've seen this several times but I still think it's a stretch

Can anyone point me to some resources online or even books available on amazon that are useful in learning more about basketball analytic and advance stats ? Want to educate myself more about that stuff to not make a fool of myself in online conversations about basketball.
I have since warmed up to the idea of drafting Clarke if management believes he is the BPA.

I learn a lot just reading and googling. Basketball Reference has a glossary of their advanced stats but if there are stats you don't understand in mathematical detail, just Google it and you'll find sites that'll explain it in more simple terms.
That's basically how I got around to understanding a bit more about advanced stats

Just quickly googling, I came across this....it starts with PER which I don't think many use much any more..it basically just captures the box score but it also goes into some of the other things..
It's older so there are quite a few more advanced stats these days but it does explain quite a few of them.

"Mathletics" by Wayne L. Winston is like $15 on Amazon. When I took a sports analytics masters class last year this was the primary book we used to develop an understanding of why "traditional" stat keeping methods are poor measuring sticks for predicting future performance and comparing players. Then it gets into why other analytics tools are objectively better and discusses how to perform these computations yourself. Good book, also covers other major sports as well as basketball.

Cole is an analytics only guy and Clarke is an analytics darling. That’s why they have him high. Everyone else has him at the back of the lottery which is where an alligator armed tweener that can’t shoot should be. Yes, I am aware of his preternatural jumping and finishing ability. That’s why he’s a lottery pick at all. Now we have beaten this horse INTO the ground. Someone tell me how to mute all posts with the word Clarke in it.

Re: Free agency and trade ideas: Which wings do we go after this summer?
We should keep Clarke or draft talk in the draft thread. I imagine many teams value measurements over production, which is obviously why Clarke is ranked lower despite his historic season not only defensively, but efficiency-wise scoring. Maybe this is smart for teams to value measurables over historically great production, maybe it is dumb. He is kind of an amomaly when it comes to prospects. Not sure I'd pass on him in a bad draft when you have a C who is not a rim protector or particularly good at defense, but it might depend on who is available. Either way, lets keep the draft talk in the draft thread, because apparently discussing Clarke in this one gets some worked up.

Someone mentioned on reddit that if the Raps win, Kawai will be arguably the key player who ended the Miami dynasty and Golden States.
This guy is quietly becoming the scariest player in the league.

We need to get our **** together next season and try to sign him if he ends up resigning a 1+1 with Toronto.

It doesn’t matter which thread. It’s just we have basically talked about him 10x more than any other prospect. I don’t know if it is because Cole, David and Max are in love with the guy or what. I just want us to move on to someone else.

Cole isn't even included in the stepien rankings, David only talks about Culver nonstop. Max overdoes it with his opinions but this is a forum for people to post their opinions. It's strange that you are wanting Clarke discussion shut down but haven't even mentioned it on a forum you moderate where they are also talking about Clarke.

I want to see Warren as a 6th man, which I always thought fits him best. Some people were calling him better than Booker not that long ago, now throw him in every garbage trade.
