There's ZERO chance for Kawhi. It's LA Clippers or Toronto. If he wants to stay in cold weather, he will stay with Toronto.

Also leaving the 5th year on the table after forgoing the likelihood of the super max seems unlikely.

But some dudes don’t care about getting all their money. Maybe he’s one of them.

This Noah stretch is gonna cost us a young asset.

Imagine being able to use him as a salary filler expiring contract?...We'd be okay with just him, Knox, DSJr, Trier #3 and an extra 1st to match Beal.

I do find it interesting with all this Kyrie to Brooklyn stuff coming out. The positive knicks approach would be KD has already found his teammate to play with so Kyrie has been informed he has to find another situation.

That would go along the lines of Chris Carters thinking...

also if by some miraculous hand of god KD and Kawhi come I would not trade for AD. I know it would be the best big 3 ever....but I would want to provide some "load management" to Kawhi and KD throughout the year and that would be difficult to do with 3 stars and the rest of the roster full of min deals.

How do you know what KD wants?
Why KD + Kyrie works when they both “wants their own team”?
Private message me upcoming winning lottery numbers so I can come up?

LOL I know. But if this really was the vision all along, what's the purpose of clearing the Noah contract earlier?

If we strike out in FA, then we just keep him. And with the remaining cap we accumulate contracts and assets like the Hakws just did

If we don't we can use him as a salary filler in a trade for the 3rd superstar...OR we can waive him now. Either way more flexibility.

Things already looked pretty toxic when Kanter was on the bench. I couldn't imagine if you added Noah to that mix.

All year these rumors to me might as well have been about another team. I have no emotional attachment to any of these players. If any of them end up a Knick I'll jump on board, but if not the only crappy thing for me is the backlash from other fans due to the media making it all such a thing for clicks.

Yep. Keeping away from the team is not an option either. He had to go. Buyout vs stretch is the only debate. Buyout means we lose 12mil in cap space this year. We had KP at the time. We wouldn't have 2 max spots this year now that KP is gone. It's really a dead horse being brought back to life. Noah had to go. Period. The team is better off for it. Moving on.

KD&Kawhi is very wishful thinking, wouldn’t bet on it at all. Let’s just hope we get a franchise player in July.

And stretching him leaves dead money on the books for the next big FA - 2021.

Which was also brought up at the time.

There is no way to take that money off the books.

What makes it worse is that another team was able to dump one of the sour 2016s for an expiring on the cheap while we were stuck with Noah.

So you purposely add money to your books for future years?

It might work out, we sign two max FAs and it won't matter.

But what's the excuse if we don't and we need that money?

RShahNyC89 wrote:As mentioned by a few people already, I'd prefer 2 of the max cats and depth. I think you're seeing that it goes a longer way than the 3 player franchises especially if there is any injury concern (KI, and AD in particular).

I think the championship is won with quality depth with smart veterans surrounding max cats/high gravity players. People like Bellineli, Ilyasova, Brook Lopez, Igoudala, Danny Green etc...All who can play with high IQ and stretch the floor.

This year, more than anything, defense and sharing the ball is responsible for both teams' success. One star can carry them as far as their collective defense allows for it and if he totally trusts the open man, no matter what they've been doing for one half or three quarters. We've seen that clearly with Toronto and also with the Warriors to some extent.

It's an interesting perspective on players like Kyrie, Harden, CJ+Dame, DeRozan, Westbrook, Booker and... uh... LeBron who all chill in the Caribbean atm.

So if you go for "only" two stars, make sure the other 10-13 players squeeze the **** out of the opposition on defense and are valuable off the ball. I'd leave Kyrie for the Nets definitely and make a strong pitch for all sorts two-way players. I'd definitely go and trade DSJ and probably Knox as well.

A franchise player who plays defense. You're right though.
