This team might play a little defense
I like the way you've persuaded Trier to take $2.2m on a 1+1 (2nd year player option) and DJ the $4.75 room MLE (same 1+1 story) on the gentleman's agreement that you'll pay them both next year. Team then seems superfine. NOP get #3, Knox, Smith, Garrett, Jenkins, Ellenson and 2 mavs and 2 knicks picks. That's the idea, right?

That would go along the lines of Chris Carters thinking...
also if by some miraculous hand of god KD and Kawhi come I would not trade for AD. I know it would be the best big 3 ever....but I would want to provide some "load management" to Kawhi and KD throughout the year and that would be difficult to do with 3 stars and the rest of the roster full of min deals.
I actually agree with this. I would not be opposed to going out and getting Conley though (who is much cheaper in terms of what we would have to give up). Then, let DSJ learn from him and grow into the role. Our defense would be stacked. Finally, we'd have to get rebounders, shooters and more long bodies. Targets would include:
1 more Stretch 4/big 3 that can consistently space the floor and switch PnR's (i.e. - Ariza)
1-2 SGs with deep consistent 3pt ability who can also play D (Dotson is a good option. It would be nice to have 1 more)
1 backup competent big behind Mitch who could bang/rebound vs. the biggest of teams (i.e. - Milwaukee)
With all of that said, this isn't happening haha

I'm agog to see how Conley will teach DSJ to grow .. his arms.

I think the championship is won with quality depth with smart veterans surrounding max cats/high gravity players. People like Bellineli, Ilyasova, Brook Lopez, Igoudala, Danny Green etc...All who can play with high IQ and stretch the floor.
A lot of folks dont believe in 2 max cats and depth. Trust me thats been my view on this whole thing.
2 max cats and kids or kids and 1 year deals.
I'm good with 2 max cats, 3 max cats or just keeping on rebuilding with young players and through the draft as long as whichever way we go is done with the right players. I think all 3 ways have it's advantages.

How do you know what KD wants?
Why KD + Kyrie works when they both “wants their own team”?
Private message me upcoming winning lottery numbers so I can come up?
Kyrie already got his own team and failed.
Everyone and their mother has talked all year about how KD would leave GS for the challenge of the Knicks in order to erase the idea that he's a snake/cupcake/asterisk champion.

I still wouldn’t say no to an AD trade, but I’d also gauge the market on Beal and see how much cheaper I could get him for. I think he’d be an awesome 3rd star, and maybe you preserve Mitchell (who if there’s an AD trade, is absolutely going to be included).
Does #3, a future Knicks 1st, Knox, Frank, Smith get you Beal?
Beverly / Trier
Beal / Dotson
Leonard / vets min 3D
Durant / random thug PF / our 2nd rd pick
Robinson / vets min rim runner
Preserve the Dallas picks for future assets to supplement the core next couple of seasons
Yes please
easily... tbh I even think this is a huge overpay. #3, knox and another small asset should get i done.
I think it’s a bit of an overpay, but similar to the Davis scenario, I’m figuring you do the trade after getting two max free agents, which means you have to include basically everyone else to make the math work (Beal makes $25 million)
Difference with Beal trade vs Davis is maybe you get to keep Mitch and keep the Dallas picks off the table
I'm good with trading for Beal more then many are. You absolutely have to have shooting and he's one of the better SG's in the entire league with not only his shooting but he does pretty much everything even defense. I know some think he's not worth it but i think he's definitely worth it and would love him with two other max cats. Even if it was just him and K.Durant and then throw some nice players around them at PG and PF and add a couple 3-D guys i'd be fine with that.

Re: Offseason Thread Continued - Atlanta Got Crabbes and We're Panicking
I feel like this is good news for the Knicks if they are all in on AD. Knicks can use the Mavs picks and probably 1 of DSJ/Frank/Knox to get the player the Pels actually want. And then flip said player, the 3 pick and one of our own for Davis. It's a lot to give up but you can probably retain Knox at least in this situation.
I wonder what established player we could fetch with that pool... Maybe Derozan? but I'm not so sure NO would be keen on Derozan although I wouldn't necessarily hate the fit there.

Anyways I think they asking for too much. Just say no to AD.

In whatever deal the Pelicans make, Griffin wants the assets to continue building a Western Conference playoff team around guard Jrue Holiday and the projected No. 1 overall pick, forward Zion Williamson, sources said.
For now, a Davis trade looms as a premium free agent recruiting tool for those big market teams engaged with New Orleans. For example, Brooklyn and New York are pursuing Davis to partner with the likes of a Kevin Durant or Kyrie Irving once free agency commences on June 30.
Davis, 26, requested a trade in January -- with the Lakers as a primary destination -- but negotiations never gained traction. Those talks were led by New Orleans GM Dell Demps and Lakers president Magic Johnson -- both of whom are no longer employed in those positions.
Griffin was hired as the Pelicans EVP of Basketball Operations in April, and immediately embarked on a campaign to convince Davis to re-consider his desire to leave the franchise. Davis is eligible to sign a five-year, $235.5 million super max contract starting in July.
