Re: Around the NBA: 2018/2019 edition
I think it's way too early to draw any conclusions about how this will impact the summer. Durant probably felt a pop and some pain, but he put weight on the foot and limped off the court. He'll probably miss some time next year, but we don't yet know the severity of the injury. I don't think anything short of an amputation is going to scare off some of his suitors.
I thought Myers' display at the press conference was irrational and possibly contrived for an audience of Kevin Durant.

It was pretty OTT right? For a guy who limped off the court. Though, Ive got no knowledge of how Achilles injuries go, he was certainly presenting the kind of grief you'd show if the player has suffered a career ending injury.

Re: Around the NBA: 2018/2019 edition
I remember reading and listening A LOT of podcasts and articles about Kobe's achillie injury, from what i get, his achillie will recover fine, it's inbalance in foot that brings major other problems.
Saw it with Cousins, recovered from achillie, blew up quad.
Kobe- recovered from achilies- blew up something else ( can't remember what)
Positive examples: Wilkins and Wes Matthews .
But this could shake lot of plans for lot of teams. Also Durant wanting to play for Warriors, despite knowing risk, may mean that he will resign. Why risk your career for team you plan to leave within next 19 days? Legacy ? It's not worth your career, especially when you are just turned 30 and you are probably the best player in whole world.
Guy on one leg, played 1 quater and was difference maker, just ridiculous talent.

Re: Around the NBA: 2018/2019 edition
Spoiler:
There has been a lot of speculation that last month or so that this was an Achilles injury. Videos have been surfacing of him icing his Achilles rather then his calf and the severity of it seemed that way from day one.
As a fan I give him props for coming back and playing, but it seems extremely shortsighted to come back and play a day after getting cleared for your first practice. Especially if it was an Achilles injury from day one.
It will be interesting to see what this does for his free agency. I suppose he will be looking at a return by All-star break or possibly sooner. If he goes somewhere like New York, there is no way that team would make the playoffs if that turns out to be the case.
It seems like opting back in with the Warriors to come back in time for a playoff run next year may indeed be the smartest move.

Why should a team sign Durant now? I doubt Durant is ready for the season opener.
Why? He didn't suffer a career ending injury. As long as he doesn't Grant Hill his recovery he will be fine.
Also, Grant Hill is an example about teams not caring about an injury like this.
I didn't know it was his Achilles as the time. Wow, much bigger injury than it looked. Could change quite a lot about how the league changes now.
i think it was his achilles before too

I think it was achilie all along, he might feel like it's his lower calf ,but place of pain does not need to be place of injury.
I will be pretty depressed if this injury signals end of his career, guy is easly one of most skilled players basketball has ever seen.

My reading is that they were not sure if KD was ready to come back or not, and he took this decision, but it didn't work out.
Perhaps KD was also saying that he wanted to play and he was being pressured by his teammates. Klay couldn't look in the eyes during his whole interview, I'm not a specialist, but maybe he was feeling guilty about the outcome of pressuring KD to play.

I think KD still gets offered the max this offseason but just not by as many teams. I wonder if that raises Vuc's value to a few teams who've already started making moves to offer max contracts.

If KD stays with the warriors, They are going to stay over 500 while Durant is out. If Durant goes to another team, They probably remain under 500 while he's out. He's not going to be ready for the season opener.

Re: Around the NBA: 2018/2019 edition
As unfortunate as it is, KD probably won't ever come back to his prime form if this is a torn/ruptures achilles. That changes the landscape of the NBA pretty significantly with LeBron in his twilight and KD out/out of his prime. Warriors will still be great with Steph/Green/Klay (if Klay comes back), Giannis looks like a monster and still might get better, Toronto will be tough if Kawhi returns, but the NBA is much more open with no KD. Really interested to see what happens this offseason to see teams try to take advantage of a KD-less league.
Another superteam will probably be formed this summer and change everything again, but I hope not.

Assuming he will be out for a full year, I believe he will opt-in or re-sign for a supermax with Warriors.
No team should offer him a supermax (39M in the 1st year for no reason) and we can't say for sure how good he will come back in one year, imagine if he comes back like Grant Hill, will he worth 40M/year and all the drama? Just remember Boogie Cousins in the past offseason, he had to sign for 5M/year because he would be out for half a season.

if KD stays, they are in cap trouble. $113mil without Klay, Looney. Only Curry, KD, Green, Iggy and a couple min-level players. GS owner better be ready to pay a hefty tax bill to keep Klay/Looney. and then they saw this year what happens without depth, which they wont be able to get

you cant be offered a supermax from the team you are not on. meaning that NY or Brooklyn or whoever couldnt come in with a supermax offer. only a team that drafted a player or got him on his rookie contract. also cant be a S&T.

If Kyrie thought KD was coming with him to Nets or Knicks, I think KD is staying with the warriors and everybody on the warriors might want to lower their salary and possibly add Kyrie.

Even if it's not supermax, let's say it's a max contract (not sure how much it is for a veteran like him), but it is the same idea. No one will pay him 30M to sit on the bench except GSW, IMO.

If KD signs a long term deal with another team he could be the modern day Grant Hill.

Probably some team(s) will, but should they? It's too risky if his injury is really bad. That team would be in cap hell for 4 seasons without any chance of trading him and he would account for 30-35% of their cap space. But it's fine, I said no one would offer, as you said someone will, there is always Isiahs Thomas as GM, right?
No matter what, KD will be 31 when next season starts and he should start to decline without any injury, imagine with a really bad one and having to re-invent himself. Remember that Grant Hill was 28 when came to O-Town and he played 47 games in the next 4 seasons after signing with us.
