At first glance, I thought this was a great trade for the Nets. However, after having 24 hours to think it over, I’m not sure it was the right move.

It honestly reminds me a bit of the Old School Nets that got themselves in trouble and owned by the Boston Celtics (not nearly as bad tho). And here is why...

First off, I’m not sure I get the narrative that of Durant following Kyrie? It should be the other way around. Kyrie has proven that he is a sidekick, not a Leader. I still think Knicks are in drivers seat for Durant, because who would you rather play with KD or Kyrie?

Let’s say KD goes to Knicks, and Kyrie decides to stay true and sign with the Nets. There is no guarantee Russell wants to resign to play with Kyrie. Why? Because he would get taken off the ball a lot more and be forced into more of a spot up guy.

If you’re Russell, you can sign with Knicks and play with KD. Also, there are a lot of teams looking for point guards who would hand him the Keys to the car.

Let’s say they do get Kyrie and resign Dlo. If Durant doesn’t come, which other star would be running to sign with them? Tobias Harris? I just do not think that team is super elite.

And then there is the worst case scenario of Kyrie following KD to New York and basically clearing all this cap space for no reason and giving up two first rounders to do so.

Nets now have two slots, they are a way better organization than the Knicks, still in NYC, a lot of super roleplayers than compliment KD immediately and the Nets don't have a history of stars so KD can immediately come in and be the face of the franchise

Plus he would look a lot better in black and white than the ugly Knicks colors.

I want it to happen just to see the Knicks fanbase get let down again

Follow up question:

Why does everyone assume KD is leaving the Warriors?

Because they can’t keep Klay and Durant.

So..... why is everyone assuming KD is leaving?

I feel like it's a pretty **** easy decision between keeping the best offensive player in the world... or Klay Thompson

Of course thats an easy decision.

If KD wants to be there.

Lets keep this logic train going.

Why does everyone assume he doesn't want to be there?

Get my point? There's a ton of mental gymnastics going on

Well Toronto is going to win the Finals. RIP RealGM

Wonder what this does to Leonard, does he stay to defend the title? Or will Toronto go from champs to rebuild in 1 offseason.

I think KD leaves, I dont think he likes being there. He went to get a ring, he got one and now his ego cant handle being #2. Same with WB in OKC. Klay might leave too, but I doubt it. Would love for them to both leave, might make things interesting next season.

Kyle Lowry put on a passing clinic tonight, he made so many great extra passes.

Marc Gasol must be the happiest dude ever. Almost got traded here and instead he is going to get a ring.

Calling it right now, if KD is 100%, Warriors will win the next 3 games. Kawhi is going to be Mr. Invisible.

That's a bummer. I hope the Raptors finish this next game. I'm tired of watching Curry and the Warriors to be honest.

Cousins is Kawhi's antivenom. Dude can't play hard with his contract on the line against the biggest bully in the NBA. Those legs turn to jello.

Durant possibly being out for next season changes everything. He could possibly opt in for 31 million as insurance.

I feel horrible for Durant. I wouldn't wish that injury on any player.

I should feel bad for Durant but I don't. I've been really down on the league since he went to GS.

I mean, it was practically a foregone conclusion before last night that he would be signing in NY or LA. Now? I mean even if he does, he's not even playing next season if his Achilles is indeed fully ruptured. Sucks for him, but it's hard to feel too bad for someone making $30+m/yr and has multiple championships already.

The real losers here are the Knicks. Who now have to double-down on AD and Kyrie. There's a good chance Kyrie does not go to NYK and a decent chance the Lakers end up with AD. Imagine if the Knicks, after giving up Porzingis and having the worst record in the NBA, lose out on Zion and now their FA plans evaporate into dust?

I've never understood the whole philosophy of its hard to feel bad for someone making X amount of dollars. Yeah, Durant is kind of a douche, but he came back from an injury he probably needed 3 more weeks or longer to heal to try and help his team and risk his immediate and long term future to try and help his team. I think its terrible.

I feel kind of bad today. Yesterday I was having a conversation with my co-workers about Durant coming back for game 5. I basically said this exact quote, "I hope he comes back and rips his Achilles in half in the first quarter of the game. Normally I would never root for player to get hurt, but **** Durant. And at least this way if the Warriors do when it'll prove all along that they never needed him to win a championship."

Now, mostly that comment was just for shock and awe, but now I kind of feel like maybe I should check to see if I can use a voodoo doll on a few people in my life that pissed me off.

You should turn that power around and use it to help Mitch pull off another Pau Gasol trade.
