Stop with the Kawhi talk. He's never ever coming here. 0% chance. Not even 1% chance.

i don't buy that but even if so, what did kd do to deserve it ? sh*t just happens sometimes
I know I’m just trying to be funny. It did bug me a little how much people were already banking on this.
I was never 100% that we were getting KD but it didn't bother me that some of our fan base was so excited that we finally have/had a chance of getting one of, if not the, best player in the game. There's fans and then there's fans.

I feel like there's a similar lack of credit/disrespect thing going on with Davis that there was with Durant, and/or Steph, and/or Klay at varying points earlier in these playoffs.
I think painting Davis as "not worth it now" is crazy to me. The guy is one of the best players in the league and still likely in his pre-prime. He's the kind of player you clear cap space for to build around, and just because there happened to be an even better player rumored to be coming to the Knicks doesn't mean that Davis really was nothing more than an ancillary player.
I get that there might be less certainty about him signing longterm now, but to me that's still a no-brainer risk you have to take if a player like AD wants to play for your org. We're talking a top-10, debatably top-5 player, who plays both sides of the ball and is 26 years old.
The massive shadow of a legend like Durant has messed with the optics of a Davis signing. If you really have faith in Perry you make that move without question and build around Davis 10 times out of 10. He's that talented, productive, and young. He might not be Kawhi or Durant level, but just because NOP f*cked up their time with him doesn't mean he's not that dude.

What choice do they have though? KD was the plan. It's why they traded KP for mostly cap relief.
It's only natural to look at Kawhi. I don't think it will happen either. But the FO is going to try hard.

When Kawhi doesn’t come here it’ll just be that the sources weren’t wrong, he just changed his mind after they won a title.

Uncle Dennis will tell Kawhi to be a Knick. Everything will be fine.

Y'all was saying with Big 3's, someone was gonna get Chris Boshed or Kevin Loved. Well, now you might have your answer depending on how the chips fall.

I agree 100% that Davis is THAT dude.. but what scares me about trading for him is how would the Knicks would be better suited for building around AD than NOP were? At that point after trading for him several team building assets would've been shipped out for him.. we would be behind the ball a little bit in trying to get a suitable supporting cast around him while he's still in his prime years

Beagle, let me preface this by saying I like you. Always have. Cuz you are a straight shooter. You don't do the cute chit.
So with all due respect, I ask how are you quantifying those percentages? What is the basis of your confidence?

At least it won't be a 5 year deal like the old CBA. 4 Years is not THAT bad.

Next up:
Knicks trade EVERYTHING to get AD on the team at the draft, to make a big play for Kawhi
Kawhi joins the Sacramento Kings because "they make him feel nice"
AD gets hurt badly 20 games into Knick career.
Knicks struggle along at 25 win seasons for the next 4 years except they don't have any Mavs picks and traded two of their own. And no young guys except Dotson and DSJr. Who leaves as a FA because, according to his Instagram post "The Knicks just suck, as always"
The thing about AD is he is a 'long haul' guy at the prime entering age of 26. You get him on the team (if he is amenable) and you have quite a few years (6-8 yrs) of prime window. KD on the other hand may have only 2-3 years of elite level play left .
But AD will obviously want another max. Would he be OK waiting for KD? If not , could we get KD and another guy like Kemba or Butler or Kawhi that can play alongside AD next year?
As great as AD is, gutting the team and having the core of AD/Kemba or AD/Butler is something I'm not totally sold on.
Kawhi? hell yeah. But that's just wishing.
If it's not AD coming with one of KD (this is before this injury) or Kawhi then we would have to go the 3 star/max way and wait on the AD trade until after we sign two other max players and then do the AD trade. You give me J.Butler and Kemba or J.Butler and T.Harris or whatever two of the big names and then add A.Davis to them and i'm good with that but not sure i'm good with just AD and Butler or just AD and Kemba or etc. I would actually love to get D.Russell and J.Butler to go with A.Davis and wouldn't feel horrible having J.Butler and T.Harris to go with A.Davis or J.Butler and Kemba to go with A.Davis.

KD opts in. AD is traded to somewhere besides LAL. Both are UFA next summer.
We sign both without giving up any assets. Add Barrett this summer and another Top 7 pick next summer.
Yes, and it counts!
Going all-in here would be a Knick thing to do, which is to say a disaster.

Re: Offseason Thread Continued - Atlanta Got Crabbes and We're Panicking
I’m starring to think the people advocating for maxing KD now are the same people who advocated for max signings of Noah, Amare, Jerome James and acquisitions such as Derrick Rose. Stop taking gambles on injured players. I’d rather play Knox 40 minutes a night and continue losing and rebuild than sign a 31 year old one legged Durant to a max contract.

If Rudy Gay can come back from this like 80-85%, I'm sure Durant can too. I think I'd still sign him. You can still develop the young players and by the time he comes back, they'll be ready.
Rudy Gay per minute is still putting up the same if not better numbers.

KD injury most certainly pushes Kyrie to the team that lands AD.
So if Knicks snag AD, thoughts on AD & Kyrie in MSG?

It could be worse. It could be a 4 year supermax contract like the Wizards gave John Wall. lol

Or if you’re a real Knicks fan you can remember that signing players who have experienced devastating injuries in the past has never worked for the franchise and to stop making the same stupid decisions over and over again.
