But can they all shoot? Every NBA player can dunk but if you can't shoot and don't give effort on defense then things won't go well.

There's just no cheat code offseason available anymore. That's the only thing that's changed. There are still viable roads to championship relevancy both next year and beyond based on the heavy lifting this FO has put in since Perry was hired, they're just normal paths with typical pitfalls, risks, and question marks instead of the golden road with no danger. Perry & Co are here to do that work. While not as instantly exciting as the cheat code path, it's much more fascinating to see what happens within the next handful of weeks.

They would suck short term. Long term, there's a playoff team and possibly more with internal development.

I trust our coaching staff to develop. This is not useless coaches here bc they are friends with the president.

The players have to be good enough to develop.

None of these guys are ever gonna be stars I don’t care how good the “player development” is

The Pelicans, according to an ESPN report, weren't enamored by any offer the Knicks or any other suitors had made for Davis. So the Knicks had engaged in some dialogue with teams in an effort to improve their offer for Davis, per SNY sources. It's unclear how far along -- if at all -- any of that dialogue was, but some people in the organization were uncomfortable with the idea of trading away significant assets for Davis, citing the way things played out for New York in the wake of the Carmelo Anthony trade, per SNY sources.

If we go young you have to say that team has a pretty high ceiling.

Mitch -- no ceiling, literally.

Knox -- has all the tools and showed definite flashes though very much without sustaining.

RJ -- don't know him well enough but consensus is high ceiling.

Smith -- spark up the O and will get a little better, already not bad.

Dotson and Trier -- not high ceilings but coming off good years.

Even Mario showed significant flashes at the end and he's a guy with heart who cares and brings multiple tools.

I still believe in Frank. We'll have to find some defensive presence at some point, beyond just Mitch.

Haven't skimmed the thread, but man... this is why we consider ourselves a cursed fanbase.

Ultimately I hope durant's ok for his own sake, but it never ends. Getting him to begin with was obviously not certain, but at least you could let the chips fall where they may.

If it comes out that he tore it, I don't see how you max him out. Sitting out a season is fine, but this is still the death sentence injury in the NBA. Nique is still the only star that has come back full strength from it. And who knows how a guy with durant's body recovers from it.

I'm really not a fan of DSJ and Knox but man..they are so young. 21 and basically 20.

I have serious doubts any of these guys will even be starters on real good teams eventually yet people want to build around this core

No wonder Dolan has been able to peddle his bs all these years. We have a dumb fanbase who is willing to buy blind hope no matter who’s on the roster.

What about just signing Kyrie and hoping against hope he can rule the world:

Kyrie
Frank/Trier/Dot
RJ
Knox
Mitch

Package the Mavs picks for a vet forward. No names come to mind.

Sign Enes Kanter to a 15M non-guaranteed deal and then waive him immediately.

Mitch no ceiling  so you’re saying he can be the best player in the league?

He does have a ceiling it’s probably defensive minded centers with a limited offensive game Gobert Capela etc

Those guys are unplayable in certain playoff series because of their lack of shooting

Those

With the right additions to these young kids over the next couple of years they could absolutely grow into a good team. You add another legit PG and another big man to help M.Robinson down low and some shooters and defenders or even better shooters that can defend and in 2-3 years we could really have something special. We have to hit big with our draft picks though especially the 1st rounders.

Neither were the Lowry/DeRozan Raptors.

They aquired Lowry 7 years ago. DeRozan played for the team for nine years. Were the Raps ultimately able to build a champion contender or nah?

One way of thinking about Durant is will the 2020-21 version be better, more or less the same or worse than, say, specifically the 2020-21 versions of Middleton and Harris, what are your confidence levels and if you were to be wrong in which way would you expect to be wrong.

Correct. And then... you have to make good moves going forward as well. Eventually, you cash in a player, pick, and a prospect for a better player that wants to leave. And you still have enough in the pool to contend.

Or maybe Barrett is way better than anyone projected. Optionality.
