Re: 2019 NBA draft
I think Bol can play in the NBA-- until he breaks his foot again. And as soon as he puts on 20 lbs of muscle, it will break due to the added strain. Waste of a pick.

20lbs of "muscle" is a good thing.

I'm not sure why, but I'm far more willing to take the risk on Claxton than Bol. I know it's roughly the same risk. But, I like Claxton's skillset and mobility a little more. Probably doesn't make sense, but... <shrug>.

Stop man. You're better than this.

Hmmmm, very interesting. Celtics are liking thier shooters these days, having another one, Dylan Windler in for a second workout.

I say go after shooting with Herro and Cam then add defense with Thybulle. No reason to draft one of those many ho hum bigs when we got Williams who's better than all of them.

Re: 2019 NBA draft
I've had a weird feeling all college season long and still today that Langford will be a Celtic. Couple reasons why. 1. He fits the Ainge mold of being a highly rated top HS prospect. 2. I'm not big on him. Ainge likes to draft guys I'm not huge on. Langford being 1 of them.winsomme2 wrote:Romeo Langford is definitely my draft sleeper.
The irony is that playing with an injured hand actually hurt his draft stock. If he had gotten surgery in November, he might be a top 5 prospect like Garland.
Instead, he toughed through it and people are saying he can shoot or handle the basketball.
I'm not sure if he will last to 14, but if he's there, I think you have to take him...

I'd absolutely puke at that draft for Boston.Upperclass wrote:If I'm the Celtics, I'd target Bol bol at 14, PJ Washington at 20, Brandon Clarke or Keldon Johnson at 22

Langford is an Avery Bradley pick - so is Nas Little - fell down or off the radar after being a highly ranked high school player.
Btw, if you like Hachimura’s development trajectory, Kabengele was a redshirt freshman who’s shown a ton of growth in a limited time.. a little bit true of Fernando, too

They are actually very comparable profiles, except Leonard has an NBA frame and Bol has superior wingspan to be a plus rim protector. Both are very effective spot-up shooters and solid finishers at the rim. Neither have a clue on defense and slow feet that expose them when facing smaller, quicker players. Meyers has made a nice little career with that (limited) game.
Perhaps Bol's crazy length will offset his lead feet, but that presumes he will develop a sense of defensive presence/awareness that he heretofore has not shown in HS or at Oregon.
I just don't see him as a boom/bust pick like folks are hoping for. I think in a best case, he is a 20 MPG big you bring in as a floor spacer against 2nd units. I just don't ever see how he builds a game / has the stamina to be a top-3 piece for a playoff team. This is not a guy like Zach Collins where I can eventually see him being a true two-way impact player providing rim protection and floor spacingg, and being nimble/smart enough to not be exposed by top teams when you're forced to switch or defend the perimeter.

The difference is that there's some good reasons for why Langford had an off year though. He played the majority of the season with a torn thumb ligament in his shooting hand, which 100% impacted his ability to shoot. IU also had a down year which is put on his shoulders, when in reality he put up really good numbers. He has an A+ in the character/leadership arena as well, which I have to think will carry weight after the locker room issues of last year.
He checks a lot of boxes for me, including the ability to get to the line. Among top-20 guard prospects, the only guy with a higher FT rate in this class is Ja Morant (and it was basically the same despite playing much easier competition). I just think at a minimum, he can come in and be a contributor through his defense, rebounding, and ability to attack the rim as a secondary ballhandler. If his shooting checks out, he is the guy IMO outside the consensus top 5 that could turn into a legit All Star talent and make people wonder how he fell so far in retrospect in this draft.

Would you take Langford at 14, or 20/22?

If you want him gotta take him at 14. I can’t see him lasting to 20. Might not make it it to 14.

Re: 2019 NBA draft
I’d much rather gamble on Langford locking in his shot and building his left hand out than take someone like Herro.. Not sure where I’d put him vs Nickeil AW or Talen Horton-Tucker.. one has a much higher floor as a complementary off-guard, the other has a much higher ceiling as a defensive player..
Langford is the only player outside the top 10, though, who might be able to create his own shot - although you have to assume teams are going to guard him to go right and shut him down in the pros..
Hachimura seems to be creative enough to get his own shot if you feed him in the high post, too..

Langford aces the eye test, the way he carries himself he looks like a star.. and he aces the name test - the same way we have Red Joe Forte over Tony Parker, I think it’s worth it just to hear Tommy Heinsohn uncork a “wherefore art thou Romeo”, or even the old “I love..”

Wanted to trade to get another pick to nab Collins in the draft. I'm big on him still.

Re: 2019 NBA draft
Bobbie marks just picked clark mutombos nephew, and ty jerome.
Glad he isn't our gm ty jerome is a 2nd Rd pick and Clarke has short arms. I'm ok with mbingle (spelling). I'm ok with Clarke to but not with who was available at 14.
I was hoping this show was going to give me insight. It has, marks is dumb.
