Specific Scenario

But yeah, I get your point, I'm not disagreeing so much as just generally discussing.

You have a point with regards to this specific scenario, so I'll concede that hypothetical. I was talking more from a general standpoint, but I guess specific situations and the options available would dictate how we should proceed with regards to Durant.

100%. He's definitely not the best option. But it's just going to be a complicated offseason if we don't land Kawhi, Kahwi's the only no-brainer.

OTOH our FO has been playing checkers not chess the last 2 years, and may very well likely surprise us again with a big move out of the blue (to us), that totally resets the table. And then suddenly some FA that didn't seem to make sense, becomes the sensible choice (hell, that could even be KD, or whomever.) Actually, given the last 2 years I think this scenario is more likely than not.

IMO the Clippers should try to trade the farm for AD in order to attract Leonard.

Otherwise, I would rather the Clippers stick with their young players and try again next year.

There is no way I see Bev leaving the Clippers if we offer something around the MLE on a shorter deal.
Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.

Wiretap story say David Aldridge cites "league sources" expecting several teams to be "all-in" on KD in free agency.

I'm all in favor of signing Deandre Jordan, Brook Lopez, and Dewayne Dedmon to the MLE or Vet Min. I think they'd all fit perfectly with next years squad if we manage to get someone like Kawhi. Even without Kawhi it's not the end of the world, you can still put together a great team through proper scouting and free agency moves. If you don't have a superstar, find one. Make one.

The optics of signing him would suck. This was supposed to be like some rites of passage to show we officially were a destination franchise and have everything going for us.

Nothing reminds me of Old Clippers more than signing a superstar with a bad wheel and saying, “wait one year, you’ll see”.

It’s effectively signing a guy for ages 32, 33, and 34...he could have had a significant drop off at these ages on his own without the injury. He certainly would be playing less minutes, resting, etc. etc. as the playoffs would be all that matter. It’s gonna be worse coming off injury.

I can’t get behind it.

AD's agent is trying to force his way to Lebron. Its not a good look in my opinion.

Picking the Lakers and the Knicks as his destinations also shows me this is not about winning.

I'm surprised by AD. This is not who I pictured him being. If I was the Pelicans I would not let themselves be blackmailed.

If a team signs KD to the Max for 4 years they may only get him for 2-3 years and that may be a reduced KD. I think he will still be good because he should still be a shooter and tall but will he have the same burst to the hoop? Going to be a high risk high reward scenario.

I guess he wants to be lost in a mirage of legends than stand out on his own.

The Clippers made themselves attractive this season.

No idea why. Every player is an individual. It is hard to predict what they value most. I could almost understand the Lakers because of Lebron, Kuz, Ball, Ingram (some probably gone in a trade) but NY?

I think AD is one of the 2 best bigs in the NBA in ability but my respect for him is starting to decline. The Pelicans should make the deal that is best for their fans not for AD and definitely not for Lebron. The Pelicans passed on some great players to draft AD #1. They passed on Dame Lillard, Bradley Beal, and Austin Rivers.

Well not really they drafted Austin also. I just wanted to throw him in since I know you guys love him. :D
