Quasi-Official Promotions/Demotions Thread
I'll kick it off with the news that Michael Main and Anton Maxwell (Rangers) were called up to Low-A Spokane.
And go.
And go.

michael main has been great since signing with us, if only beaven had the same idea instead of holding out til the last day.
taylor teagarden and chris davis were called up to AA a couple weeks back too, both are tearing it up as well. if davis can keep improving on his plate discipline he can possibly become a good hitter in this league.
o and in case u were asleep over the weekend cameron maybin was called up to the majors and crapped all over roger clemens
he also looks like he has a noodle arm.

tonight he bounced back from his 1st or 2nd bad outing going 5 innings giving up 1 run on 3 hits and striking out 9.
keep in mind the majority of his opponents are coming from college.
Yeah. Just wanted to give you some s**t for it.

Jo-Jo Reyes called up to the big club by the Braves. Is that really his name?

As far as I'm concerned, this Mariners team is still the one that should've won 60 games all year. They're just overachieving. They won't make the playoffs, but it'd kick ass if they do.
Also, the number of legitimate Mariners' prospects can be counted on one hand.

Not that he's going to be the next Brandon Webb or anything but Aaron Laffey's going to be one hell of an extreme groundballer for the Injuns next year. Out of the 24 outs he's recorded so far this season, only 4 have been fly outs. Ridiculous.
They're calling him up again for a game this weekend.

Laffey is one of my sleeper prospects. Kid has great GB tendecies and strikes out enough, while still being extremely young. It seems the Indians crank out the GB pitchers in Westbrook, Carmona, and now Laffey.
To go along with Laffey I really like these GB pitchers too, Trevor Cahill, Clayton Tanner, Aaron Thompson, and Dallas Trahern. None really talked about much at all.

He might: is Byrd a FA after this season? If so, I'd imagine the rotation'd look like this:
1. Captain Cheeseburger
2. Carmona
3. Westbrook
4. Adam Miller
5. Lee/Sowers/Laffey
I'm not that high on Sowers and Lee's now nothing more than a fifth starter on a quasi-contending team, so why not see what Laffey can do?
BB's right; what is it with Indians and groundballers?

With the dearth of quality pitching on the FA market this upcoming offseason, it wouldn't surprise me to see the Injuns move one (or more) of the aforementioned pitchers.

After Saturday's game, his GO/AO stands at 31/4...yeah, 31/4.

the rangers promoted outfielder engel beltre (from the gagne trade) and catcher cristian santanna from arizona rookie league to short season spokane. the seasons almost over and its sorta no big deal but both of these guys have big time potential. cristian just needs to focus on staying healthy and beltre looks to be improving on hitting since we've acquired him.
we also sent julio borbon from spokane to arizona rookie. i thought he was somewhat a waste of a draft pick this year and dont really know what scouts see in him but we gave him a spot on the 40.

edinson volquez was called up today and will start saturday. interesting story with this guy, he sucked in the majors the last 2 years with control problems but he has amazing stuff (probably the best in our system)
so they sent him to start the year in High A b/c our pitching coach did the same thing with Roy Halladay in Toronto and it worked out for him. He sucked to start the year in bakersfield (though that place is only 354 ft. to centerfield, rediculous) he got better as the year went on.
He was slated to come up last week to pitch but missed a bullpen session and was punished by not being called up. he responded by showing up 9 hours early in uniform for his next start. and in AAA his #'s are 6-1 1.41 ERA with 66K's in 51 IP's he's also improved his BB/9 this year from 5.4 to 3.7.
So now you know the rest of the story.

What's the scouting report on Beltre?
Spokane is locked in a critical race for the division title between all four teams in its division, and they have a legit shot at making the championship series.
